Data Fabric's Chronicle n.1

Data Fabric's Chronicle n.1

Welcome to this new initiative of Synergo! and the Data Management Summit

According to Gartner, Data Fabric is an architecture and set of data services that provides consistent functionality across a variety of environments, from on-premises to the cloud. Data fabric simplifies and integrates on-premises and cloud data management, accelerating digital transformation. How are we going to convince enterprises that data is absolutely cross-cutting? How can we perform robust data valuation? Can data fabric help us with this? Can we subdue data silos?

Our idea is to publish here everything that can be of interest to the Data Fabric world. We will do this on a monthly basis. Unless we find something worth to be pointed out to the community.

Data Fabric: Convergent Solutions to Avoid Complex Tools Patchwork (Source DataVersity)

Gartner defines data fabric as a design concept that serves as an integrated layer (fabric) of data and connecting processes. A data fabric uses continuous analysis on existing?metadata?assets to support the design, deployment, and use of integrated and reusable data across environments, and is?a must for data-driven organizations: “The data structure approach can enhance traditional Data Management patterns and replace them with a more responsive approach. It offers D&A managers the ability to reduce the variety of integrated data management platforms and offer cross-enterprise data flows and integration opportunities.”

This is why it is necessary to have an all-in-one approach – that is, a platform that can operate across the entire data pipeline, from data ingestion to data exploitation and visualization.?

US Army officials: Service needs ‘true data fabric’ (Source: c4isrnet.com)

NASHVILLE, Tn. — Creating a data fabric will be a key part of modernizing the Army’s holistic network — from the?tactical space all the way to the enterprise, according to service officials.

“I want to develop a true data fabric,” Brig. Gen. Jeth Rey, director of the Network Cross Functional Team, said here during a Dec. 2 technical exchange meeting. At the daylong event, Army network officials discussed the service’s needs for the newest batch of network technology and met with industry.

A data fabric is not a single solution, but rather, a federated environment that allows information-sharing among various forces and echelons.

Getting the right data to the right decision maker or unit at the right time without overburdening them is a key tenet for future combat, top DoD officials assert. It is a critical piece of the Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) initiative, the department’s high-priority warfighting concept that aims to more seamlessly connect sensor information to shooters.

Data Fabric > the Metaverse: The 2022 Tech Trends These Leaders Are Watching (Source: builtinchicago.org)

Hyperautomation. Data fabric. The metaverse. Two of these are trends Chicago tech leaders are actively keeping an eye on in 2022 and the other is, well, let’s just say an idea thats?time might not have come just yet.?

The metaverse was not snubbed because Chicago’s tech companies prefer to play it safe when it comes to new technology. Rather, it’s that on the whole, the city’s tech scene is characterized by companies that combine sound business practices with innovative technology. This means, naturally, that the tech trends local leaders are watching tend to be those that can make an actual, tangible impact on a company’s bottom line or the way its teams work?as opposed to ideas whose business cases have yet to be fully fleshed out.

Data collection isn’t the problem: It’s what companies are doing with it (Source TechCrunch)

Yet, many businesses cannibalize this valuable asset by selling it to third parties when they should be using it to make their businesses stronger and more sustainable.

Nearly all digital businesses collect some type of data from their users, so there has been growing concern from privacy rights groups about how that data is used. Yet, data collection is not wrong in and of itself. It’s the why, how and what is done with it that matters most when it comes to building a profitable and sustainable business that simultaneously respects the privacy of its users.

In the majority of cases, there is no nefarious man behind the curtain collecting data for evil. Most companies rake in as much data as they can under the assumption that you never know when and how data might be useful at some point down the line.
