Role: Data Engineer – Data Catalog

Location: Chicago, IL Duration: 6-12 Months

Alation Experience (Recent Projects Required)

Required Experience:

• Over 5 years of experience in Data Governance, data catalog, and data stewardship.
• Thorough understanding of data governance capabilities including data catalog, data dictionary, business lineage, technical lineage, and stewardship workflows.
• Hands-on experience in configuring and maintaining catalog tools, specifically Alation (Must Have).
• Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL, HTML, Java, Python, and others.
• Practical experience in onboarding metadata from various sources including SQL Server, Oracle, Azure cloud, and others.
• Familiarity with cloud technologies like Azure (preferred), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, and Snowflake.
• Knowledge of ETL technologies such as Mulesoft, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Talend, and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
• Understanding of data quality practices and its integration with data catalog.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other teams and vendors to resolve issues.
• Strong communication and writing skills.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Configure and maintain the data catalog platform on a daily basis.
• Collaborate closely with project teams to deliver catalog use cases, including design, configuration, and deployment.
• Validate and adjust lineage diagrams as needed.
• Integrate new data sources for metadata acquisition.
• Develop customizations as required for specific use cases, which may involve API integrations, custom dashboards, and workflows.
• Work with client teams and vendors to troubleshoot technical issues in the platform.
