Tegucigalpa (Honduras), February 8, 2023 - The National Institute of Statistics (INE), the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (SETRASS), and World Vision Honduras (with the financial support of the U.S. Department of Labor ), are launching a National Child Labor Survey through World Vision's Futuros Brillantes (Bright Futures) project. The survey will deepen knowledge about the state of child labor and help to inform policies, programs, and projects to improve the situation of vulnerable groups. In short, this survey will equip us to work strategically to end child labor in Honduras.??
The survey will be conducted randomly in the 18 departments of Honduras in more than 22,000 households, with responses from up to 50,000 children ages 5 to 17, parents, heads of household, child caretakers, and key informants.??
Honduras is committed to increasing efforts to prevent and eradicate child labor. According to key stakeholders within the National Commission for the Gradual and Progressive Eradication of Child Labor, there is a lack of detailed information on child labor, in addition to low levels of awareness of the issue. The commission has called for more research and knowledge sharing processes to fulfill its mission. The last national study on child labor was conducted in 2002.?
The objective of the survey is to develop an institutionalized and systematized national child labor database that will allow the government of Honduras to have standardized indicators that monitor child labor in Honduras according to international indicators and standards.?
The survey will provide timely and reliable statistics and identify the gaps and scope in the protection of children from child labor in Honduras. Ultimately, updated, reliable information will lead to more effective action to end child labor and help children complete their education.??
