Data-Driven Engineering Journey from over 50 years ago

ROM Exercise for a fresh engineer

When I started my engineering career more than 35 years ago, my senior colleague asked me to build a mathematical model that should comprehensively describe a frontal crash. He just gave me the package drawing only and SAE journal for me to understand what he asked. Fortunately, we had CATIA for 3D packaging model and SYMDYN mathematical modeling tool. It was just an amazing start for model-based design and engineering to the journey of data-driven digital engineering with the connected physics-driven 3D simulation nowadays.

Interestingly, we are doing the extended approach in this data-driven engineering and analytics for the connected tooling and press 4.0.
