Which kind of research do you use the most often? Qualitative or quantitative? The answer will likely be, "it depends". And that's true, of course, but we're here to?make a case for data-driven design.?

2 年How do you determine that a product works? Does a working product fulfill it's value proposition according to feedback from the main user group? Does it win UX awards from industry influencers? Maybe this modern "data-driven" design starts to be more like traditional market research, where you just analyze market expectations and copy all the most popular usability innovations and aesthetic trends from similar products. A lot of the research is already done by others, why repeat it? Maybe UX professionals should do closer cooperation with marketing. One creates the expectation and another fulfils it. Actual user research would be needed in the fields of public and professional systems. In these fields the access to actual users is highly restricted and the data very likely biased, so would it make sense to base important decisions on it? Still basing decisions on data from representative users and assumptions don't result in good actual user feedback reliably, so how to get more reliable information then? These fields should get a lot more attention and research funding.?
