Data Architecture in the API Economy

The API Economy is thriving as companies around the world develop new ways to use data to connect to suppliers, partners, customers and to develop new ways to bring data to market. Not all APIs are created equal and everyone has unique needs when it comes to developing and using APIs. Some APIs are designed to facilitate pure exchange of information for Services Oriented Architectures and to replace the legacy Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) format popularized. Others are developed and used as product foundations and even more are being used to focus revenue creation opportunities. The volume, velocity and variety of data made available through the thousands of APIs in market makes for a quants feast! But how do you extract, transform and put all these big data assets to use? How do you construct a data architecture that leverages multiple APIs for data sourcing? How is that data quickly coupled with structured data residing in the four walls? In this presentation I will focus on how to build a conceptual framework for developing data architectures for API services. I will discuss various technologies that can facilitate the flow of data from service to end point and I will review some of the practical examples Crunch Data has developed for using APIs to integrate data into analytics workflows.
