DATA ARCHITECTURE 2023 RENDERING – A CLARIFICATION

By W H Inmon

In a recent post, a high level data architecture diagrammatic rendering for 2023 was offered to the public, for free. The diagram and its accompanying description showed what a modern data architecture needs to look like, for a high level perspective. In order to get the free data architecture rendering and its description, the landing page for the data architecture rendering is found at forestrimtech.com. The data architecture rendering is free and is open to anyone.

At the bottom of the rendering is the standard copyright disclosure – Copyright, Forest Rim Technology, no copying without written permission.

The protection for the rendering is for direct and complete copying of the diagram and the attribution to Forest Rim. If you want to download and use the rendering as it is presented exactly as shown, then you need to make sure that Forest Rim is attributed.

However, if you want to copy the diagram and modify and customize it to meet your specifications, there is no problem. In fact, that is the purpose of the document. And you don’t need anyone’s permission to do those modifications. Nor do you need to attribute anyone in your customized rendering.

The only intellectual property protection that is required is that if you use the document as it is presented, you need to include the Forest Rim copyright protection.

But if you take the rendition and modify it to meet your own data architecture needs, there is no problem and Forest Rim does not have any claim to your private intellectual property.

In order to download the data architecture rendition for free, just go to forestrimtech.com and look for data architecture.

What a difference from the time when "Building the Data Warehouse Days" was written! In just a few years(relatively), we have expanded our focus to include newer areas such as social media, more mature text analytics, videos, and paper scans. This progress has been made possible through advancements in data extraction, storage, and analysis. What lies ahead Bill Bill Inmon?

Hi Bill - Are the structured Data model at the top of the diagram and the Text taxonomy in the middle semantically connected?

Hi Bill Inmon, given how the vendors used and abused your diagrams in the 90s that is a very generous offer you are making.

Thanks for sharing, I am curious, my expectations was to have different data architectures between almost real time applications and batch processing and I didn't see it. Do you think the same data architecture can support both?
