This quick one is not very consequential; rather a wee bit informative and perhaps entertaining.
The word 'Data' is the plural of 'Datum' (of Latin origin). So the technically right usage is 'Data are...' and not 'Data is...'; at least historically and scientifically speaking.
However, over time, the usage has changed and it is now used as a singular noun, like any other mass noun.
