The Data, Analytics & the Actionable Insights ( / And the lack of Business acumen)
What we lack when - tying the bell (your insights) to the cat (business)
Have you ever thought of the WHY, when your insights / findings being rejected by the business? What next ??
Instead of finding fault in the statistical model you may have used or the data as such, it will be worth while to understand the clients business model, how they operate, what are they expecting from you. Before even you start the exercise, its imperative to understand what kind of insights could solve your clients business problem. As a business analyst, you need to know that your role is more than a technical person who is tech savvy and could create statistical models. Business wants a consultant who knows their business... And this role expectation is what creates the gap when we tend to deliver otherwise.
Gone are the days when people were worried about Big Data and hence skeptical. Today business knows that it is necessary to harness the benefit of BIG data which is evolving over a period of time. But the question is who is my guide or the person in-charge of this change management.
One another angle to this complex problem of expectation Vs reality is
Business expects one super hero to deliver on all these roles
> Data generation / extraction from various sources
> Cleansing the data derived from these sources
> Creating the apt statistical model
> Creating the business presentation
> Calling out the actionable insights inline with business expectation
You may be really good at gathering data, cleansing and modelling and all, but business acumen may come to you over a period of time.
What is your take on data, analytics and its application in the business world?
What all points you agree or dis-agree from the above??
