It's All About Perspective
So I was going through some old papers in my desk and stumbled across this poem. It was a great find and decided to share. The poem was written by Linda Ellis. I shortened the poem a bit so I was able to print it out and fit it in a slot, in my desk calendar.
One of the most important things to remember is that we only get one life. Too many times, we as professionals get carried away in the average day to day. Go, Go, Go, Go, Go, Go......that's all we do. There is only one chance to achieve the goals we set. Sometimes you need a reminder or even a wake up call. Changing the way you think about the life your living and the struggles that go along with it; takes consistent work. Your perspective and how you look at situations and people is crucial to living a meaningful existence. It's cliche but how do you perceive the glass? Half full or Half empty? Remember sometimes it's not about getting the Win or Loss but more about how you played the game.
From the beginning...to the end....First is your date of birth...Last is your date of death, but what matters most of all is the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time you spend alive on earth and what that line is worth. For it matters not, how much we own; the cars, the house, the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard. Are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left, that can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enough to consider what is true and real and always try to understand the way other people feel and be less quick to anger.
Show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respect and smile more...remembering that this special dash might only last a short time.
So when you look back on your life and your life's actions are rehashed, would you be proud of how you lived and spent your DASH?
