Darwon's Theory

Darwon's Theory

Last week, at the Ray White Queensland annual awards night, I was incredibly honoured to receive the award for #8 Agent in Queensland. It’s a wonderful feeling, having your hard work recognised - but it hasn’t always been that way. So, I thought I’d take the opportunity to tell you a bit more about who I am, and how I came to be popping up in your inbox every week.

I moved from Sydney to Brisbane in my early 20’s. You could say I was ahead of the Sydney-Brisbane migration trend - but really, I had tried (and failed) at a few things and wanted a fresh start. Hard work didn’t phase me. Sitting at a desk for 9 hours a day did, though. I knew I loved working with people - but I wasn’t sure what to do with that.

A phone call and a strong desire to succeed was it all it took change my career… and my life. The principal agent at Ray White New Farm reached out to me, and so began my real estate journey. Luckily for me, I landed in a dynamic, progressive agency - where I’ve been given the freedom to try new things, while learning how to conduct business with the old-school professionalism the Ray White name demands.

It hasn’t all been smooth sailing, though. You see, agents can work for months to sell a property - but in the end, if things don’t go to plan (say, the buyer’s finance falls through), we walk away with nothing. When my first deal fell over, I was heartbroken - and not just because I was struggling to afford groceries. I was heartbroken for the sellers.

But then, things started falling into place. I helped a beautiful young couple sell the home they had dedicated a year’s worth of weekends to painstakingly renovate. I worked with an older couple - whose children had long since left home - find a new generation of family to make the most of the hand-built cubby house in the yard. There’s plenty other stories, but those are two that really stick out in my mind.

I realised I was on the right track when I stopped worrying about filling up my car. Fast forward several years, and I’ve found myself on stage at the annual Ray White Awards Night last Thursday night. There’s something truly uplifting about being recognised by a room full of your peers - but what really makes all the hard work worth it is positive feedback from my sellers.

To wrap up, I would really like to thank Robert Freeman who has sat by me on many a late night in the office eating cheap Thai, for those who have met and worked with him knows just how humble, polite and hard working he is. I’d just like to thank all of the homeowners past and present who have trusted me to look after them - especially those that have referred business my way. Without you, I wouldn’t be where I am today - in a fulfilling career, doing what I love. I look forward to working with you again in the future, and achieving results we can both be proud of.

Cheers,

S.D.
