Darren-The frustrated commercial realtor

Darren was frustrated. He was working hard but getting nowhere. Know the feeling?
You see Darren had got his first listing 3 months ago. He was really happy. The property was in a good area and was appropriately priced. He was sure that it would sell quickly. But, to his surprise he wasn't getting much interest in the property. He had done everything he could do to sell the listing but nothing was working. And to make matters worse, his wife was constantly reminding him about the vacation he promised her. The Bahamas trip seemed like it might have to wait until next year. Molly has certainly heard that before.
He was by all accounts a good realtor. He was a good people person and was very knowledgeable about the local community. He had grown up in the community. He loved it here in Lafeyette. Who better than him to talk to people about why to buy commercial real estate in the area he thought? So, his decision to become a Commercial Realtor after he started to dislike his IT job made complete sense to him. He was starting to regret that decision.
He was good at showing the property, that was not the problem. The problem was there weren’t that many qualified people to show the properties too. It seemed like there was just a few people that bought most of the commercial properties in the area and they just weren’t interested in this property. He felt pretty helpless because without more commercial real estate investors looking to buy property in Lafeyette, there was no way he was going to sell the listing.
After posting pictures of the property for what seemed like the 100th time on Facebook, he fell asleep. Falling asleep was not typical for him to do in his office and if Ron, the managing broker saw him, he would not be happy. But he figured he could take a 30 minute nap without anyone noticing. As soon as he fell asleep he started daydreaming. He had the most incredible dream! He imagined Lafeyette having more commercial real estate investors that could buy his properties. He imagined what might happen if more people in his local community could invest in commercial real estate, obtain financing, and do deals. Not only would he able to sell his listing quickly, also the community of Lafeyette is much better off because the residents have more great places to live. He imagined the 65,000 square feet apartment building that he used to live at as a kid being rebuilt by a developer and seeing people enjoying living there like he did when he was growing up. With more real estate developers and investors living in Lafeyette the possibilities were truly endless.....
….. The weather was so pleasant. Warm but not too hot. Kids were running around and playing in the sand. Everyone seemed so carefree as there were no problems. This is something he could certainly get used to. Even the water was inviting and peaceful. He wasn’t much of a swimmer but how could he come all the way to the Bahamas and at least get in the water for a bit? It was like a scene in a movie. Except for the fact that he was in the scene! He could see the smile on Molly’s face and in that moment he felt like a king....
Then he wakes up.
If you can relate a lot to Darren then know you are not alone! I have talked to many Commercial realtors that feel the same way. I am looking to create an event the educates people how to invest in commercial real estate in their local area. Unlike many meetups, the content you will learn will be very detailed and actionable. If you are interested in being a part of the event or learning more about the event then connect with me here on Linkedin. Or feel free to email me at [email protected].

5 年We’re aligned. The Michigan Multifamily market is one where I see a need to build a stronger sense of community. So we are! October 24 we’re hosting a mixer in Detroit and have 70 people coming so far that have paid for their tickets. The goal is the same. Build a community. Good luck to you. I think it’s a worthwhile venture!!
