Darkness

Donnie crouched in the darkness two stories up, the bitter wind threatening to pull him from the shelter of the window recess and dash him of the cold, wet street below.??

How had he ended up here? It seemed only a short time ago he was sitting at his laptop researching the Covid-19 secret agenda and blogging his progress to his eager followers, a misfit band of free thinkers and social radicals, when he had received a tip-off to a high power meeting alluding to a shadowy group with links with the vaccine.?

In the room below a small crowd had filtered in and were taking seats, they looked up a tall thin man dressed impeccably in a smart black suit, slicked-back hair and tortoiseshell thin-rimmed glasses.

Attaching his digital recorder to the window, he inserted his earpiece and could now hear the man below.?

"Gentlemen! Gentlemen" he started, straightening up his paperwork as the wall lit up behind him. "No need for you to wear your face masks here" a gentle chuckle arose from the crowd. each to a man a near clone of the man on the stage, all dressed expensively while nursing drinks in their hands.?

"What are free thinkers?" he asked the audience.?

"Stinkers" bellowed the group back to him, laughing at their wit.?

"Absolutely" he countered "but with project sheeple now in full effect, we are looking to cull the population of free thinkers down to an acceptable 0.05%" he paused for a small round of applause.?

"As you can see gentlemen; the covid vaccine has been rolled out to 92% of the population" with 4% being medically unfit and the remaining 4% being these free thinkers"?

"Now as you all know the vaccine has been offered free of charge to all these people for an extended period and as such any deaths that will occur as we move into stage two of operation sheeple will be seen as unfortunate but avoidable by the remaining population but, and this is the key point gentlemen the choice was theirs all along" Loud applause and stamping of feet knocked Donnie back a little along the edge. This is great stuff he thought.?

"Now gentlemen as we move into the Covid variant phase we are releasing several variants that all vaccines are 100%?effective against but have a much higher fatality rate nearing 90% unless the person is of high physical health they will no longer be an issue to our longer-term goals".?

The crowd now in a frenzy rose as one to their feet and clapping.?

This combines the selection and removal of the free thinkers in one easy self-selecting step leaving only the compliant population to carry on with our work, any questions so far?"

A shorter white male remained standing and asked "But what if they find out our plan?"?

"That's the great part" replied the speaker "Their whole personality is so engaged with the anti-vaccine agenda that will either ignore the fact or warp it into a further ploy to change their minds"?

"In fact, I'm sure that we could cause it to be leaked and it would only strengthen our cause"

The speaker looked up and Donnie moved back further into the shadows, surely the speaker had not seen him, and was not even aware he was there.?Shaken he made his way back along the ledge to the drain pipe and slid down to the ground.?

"Stop right there" boomed a voice from the corner of the parking area, a high power torch panned the area and for a moment lit him up like a rabbit in headlights.?

Tucking the recorder into his pocket he made off with haste, cutting around corners and dashing through alleys to shake off his pursuers.?

Feeling safer after a minute and hearing no one following he snaked back along the alleys and yards of the City he knew so well.?

Sitting at his laptop he began to type, but suddenly stopped.?

Was he being set up? Who was his informant and how would the chat group in his blog take to his story of the vaccine being a lifeboat to the future.?Had the voice with the torch even made any attempt to stop him?

Pushing the laptop away from himself, he closed the lid dropping his room into total darkness.?
