In the Darkest Nights We See the Brightest Stars

The stars are always there, but they are not visible to us in the bright sunlight of day. In fact, we would never know of their existence if it wasn’t for the night.

And the darker the night, the more we see the brilliance and the brightness of the stars.

In a similar manner, we can forget the stars exist when it appears we are going through dark times – or challenging days – or just difficult moments. We can forget about them in times of change, ambiguity and uncertainty. But they are still there – shining bright. We may have felt this way a time or two this past year. No one can say we didn’t experience change or uncertainly at one point or another.

This analogy provides us with an opportunity to think differently. Dark nights don’t stay forever – nor do bright days. There’s an ebb and flow to the way our world works. And if you think about it – it works that way with everything. Extraordinary times, ordinary times. Happy times, sad times. Busy times, relaxing times. The key is knowing where you’re at and knowing the tide will change again.

We can see better when we change our perspective

Sometimes we focus on the negative when our attention is on the darkness, but when we shift our focus and look up at the sky, we get to see its true beauty. Millions and billions of stars dotting the beautiful dark sky, twinkling for us.  So even during the night, we get to see the stars only when we choose to look for them – with our heads held high.

Every experience in life, both personally and professionally, brings value. There are learnings and opportunities to shine hidden in every situation. The mind is quick to label a situation as good or bad. It works based on past conditioning, but if we are constantly focused on the negative aspects of a situation, we miss the good stuff. When we shift our focus from the negative and see beyond the situation we start to realize the true value in it. This is when growth happens.

We can all see those opportunities when we look for them. All we need is a change of perspective….a change of focus. And to remember to look up….!
