DARKER SIDE OF MEDIA
Do you agree that the media pay too much attention to the darker side of life?
Well the simple answer is yes, I do, and I can prove it. Pick up any newspaper, turn on any news program or station, sign in to any news website, turn on the wireless and read, watch, see, and hear what’s the first, predominant thing you notice?
Bad news! Tragedies, homicides, Natural disasters, deaths, no matter what you look at, it seems to always be bad news or bad things happening in the world.
You never hear of good things anymore neither locally, nor internationally. Except good of course the beloved sporting events.
If Golden State win, or the Yankees win, or Phelps wins another gold medal, now that’s shown on a prime-time slot during the news.
Why is that the case though? Why is that the only thing good ever shown on media seems to be bad news? Is it because the media is dark, sadistic and biased?
Some may think that way, but it could be that what actually sells and what gets the ratings, is what captivates people’s attention, and for the average person, they don’t necessary like the dark side or life, but for some reason, they are interested in it, or at curious enough to read, watch or listen to it. Why do they seem to only show and say things they want us to hear and see?
Maybe it’s just the world we live in today, but it seems like without realizing or wanting it, by allowing violence or tragic things to be an interesting or intriguing part of our life, we now crave the crazy, sadistic things that happen around us, or at least tolerate them enough to be interested in them. The media is very smart, they prey on that, and they go with what sells, not always with what's truthful.
But it can’t all be bad news, all the time. Hopefully it will start getting better before getting any worse.
