This week, the Tampa Bay Times and other media outlets published my latest article heralding the computer and forensic investigative skills demonstrated by Special Agents of the IRS Criminal Investigations division in a case that resulted in the seizure of $3.36 billion worth of Bitcoin from a computer hacker. It's also proof positive in support of my prior article detailing why the public needs to grow up and stop vilifying the budget increases approved for the IRS pursuant to the Inflation Reduction Act. If you're an honest taxpayer and you're tired of paying more than your fair share in tax, it defies logic that you wouldn't want the IRS to receive funding that would enable them to go after mega tax cheats. It's popular and childish to claim the increased IRS budget will be used to go after low-income earners. If you have that fear, the best investment of your time is to let your elected officials know that you demand they do their oversight duties and periodically hold hearings requiring the IRS to explain how they've used the additional funding, and requiring them to prove they've devoted the additional funding to go after major tax evaders. The IRS should also use some of that additional funding to improve their taxpayer service resources. Require them to hire more employees to correctly answer the questions of taxpayers otherwise frustrated by having to deal with the agency through a maze of tutorials, rather than a living/breathing tax professional.
Below is a link to my article about the latest success achieved by the IRS, despite their drastic lack of adequate resources. It's IRS prosecutions like this that the public should recognize can only be accomplishment by the unique talents of the highly skilled forensic accountants and criminal investigators within the IRS:
