To Dark Mode or Not to Dark Mode

Today, my #linkedin went to #darkmode... this pleases me. I think it's pretty new, but then I had to dig in to find it. I was trying to add a binary number to my additional name and yet it doesn't appear. This doesn't please me.

Dark mode has become an expectation in my opinion. I switch everything that I can to dark mode if not some variant theme that has a dark color in it. Thanks #visualstudiocode and #slack!

It's easier on my eyes, better at night when my wife is asleep and I have insomnia (this is often), and my battery life doesn't suffer. (You like that Oxford comma?)

However, while the benefits are a slam dunk on paper (why do we still use this term? nothing is on paper any more ;) I also still tape my favorite shows on YouTube TV and yet there is no more tape... you get the point, but I have digressed to a point where this sentence does not make sense.

Let me start again: while it may seem like dark mode is the logical choice, the whole world doesn't love it. Thankfully it's not as polarized black and white as the world has become... oh wait, this very topic resembles that statement.

Again, not the point.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that choices are nice when it comes to your #userexperience. But to what extent are we willing to do that?

Should we have many color themes like slack and vscode?

Should we go further in providing a complete different navigation experience? Think Adobe Products where you have designer mode vs developer mode... But then each of those would have light mode and dark mode.

Is this a design nightmare or a user's delight?

What are your thoughts?

I use dark mode. Perhaps it's like sunscreen. The young and wrinkle free might not think about sunscreen but as I start aging I have begun to always remember to put it on. While eyes are young, dark mode vs light mode maybe doesn't matter, but as my eyes age, I've come to appreciate dark mode.

A) LOL. B) Yes, I like the Oxford comma! C) Dark it is. D) LOL; your digressions are legendary. Like my use of the semicolon?
