Dark is beautiful: No more"Fair"? Word now!

Dark is beautiful: No more"Fair" Word now!

Finally it happened, Hindustan Unilever had to drop the word "Fair" from their 40 year old fairness cream brand " Fair and Lovely". The Ad campaign of dark skinned girls getting fairer by using this cream will not be using this word 'Fair', they may decide whatever other names their ad agency might come out with like "Radiant and Lovely" or whatever. It is also a victory to the " Dark is Beautiful" campaign run by Kavitha Emanuel. The Dark Is Beautiful campaign was started in 2009, by Women Of Worth, a non-profit based in India, as an awareness and advocacy campaign to fight "colourism". Actor Nandita Das shown in the picture above is a staunch supporter of this movement over the past decade.

This campaign seeks to draw attention to the unjust effects of skin colour bias, shaped by societal attitudes and reinforced by media messages that are corroding the self-worth of countless people, young and old. Kavitha Emmanuel was challenged by the lack of voice for those traumatised by skin colour discrimination. She recognised the need for a platform for people to connect, express and challenge this toxic belief that was stripping people of their true sense of worth. Today is the day of victory for her I think and she deserves a big round of applause for taking up this campaign.

Why is 'Dark is Beautiful' an important message? There is definite colour bias in our society. Women of Worth, which works for the empowerment of women and children, initiated the campaign because the bias has a direct impact on the confidence levels of women. It is a sensitive issue that leads to low self-esteem.

A new study by Missouri School of Journalism researcher Cynthia Frisby found that people perceive a light brown skin tone to be more physically attractive than a pale or dark skin tone. Asians are endowed by this wheatish brown colour for which the white skinned people go to Asia for getting tanned and flaunt their tanned skin.

Dusky is beautiful, sexy and most appealing. Having a dusky complexion is a bliss and I can say this with most confidence because I also have a dusky complexion. So you can definitely try these basic skin care regime to make your skin glow. These are real quick and will definitely make your skin look more radiant

We should wear colours that enhance our rich skin tone, have a healthy skin care routine, keep up with your natural hair texture and try to stay away from hair extensions, eat lots of veggies and go to the gym regularly as well as keep hydrated. These are just a few things to look physically more attractive irrespective of your skin colour.

Dark-pigmented people living in high sunlight environments are at an advantage due to the high amounts of melanin produced in their skin. The dark pigmentation protects from DNA damage and absorbs the right amounts of UV radiation needed by the body, as well as protects against folate depletion.

Therefore, go for the natural beauty of the skin colour and flaunt your natural beauty what the Mother nature given to you and be proud of your own beauty. Stay Blessed!

KISHORE SHINTRE KEEP SMILING ?? I have been writing a series on Racism and turning the mirror on ourselves. One thing I know is old ways die very very hard. In is embedded in our psyche. To dig it out is a huge process............almost like having a child. My hope is the future generations. That they grow up not tainted by all this stuff.
