Daring to Dream: What I've learned

Spending time on what you really want in life, really does work.

And, I mean, really good solid, quality time. Not just a passing moment, or even an hour. I mean, locking yourself away for a day, two days, or even a week, and getting super focussed on what you really want. AND, most importantly, setting an action plan for how to achieve and revisit it regularly!

Too busy? Sounds like a lot of work? Perhaps the following may persuade you….

It was 2011 and I was sat on the very wild and beautiful, Saunton Sands beach contemplating my future. I was in a very frustrated state. A crossroads if you will. I was single, living in rented accommodation, had an OK career in recruitment, but I wanted more. A whole lot more. I wanted my own successful recruitment business, a husband and family, a great car, house, financial abundance….you name it, it was on the wish list!

I was dreaming, but more than that, I was getting clear on my dreams. I was dissecting everything I really truly wanted in every area of my life and getting it down on paper. Whether it was personally, emotionally, spiritually, financially – I had my eye on the prize and my ultimate goals and dreams!

That day felt really powerful. I got really clear and I visualised everything I really wanted.

And after that, a series of events starting happening. First, I met my now-husband. I literally bumped into him at a rugby match, and somehow I just 'knew'. And within one year we were getting married with our first baby on the way and buying a house!!!

Within two years, and after having had two children, I decided to start a recruitment business, despite the fact that I’d decided to move away from recruitment during my maternity period! Largely due to working for a corporate recruiter prior to pregnancy that literally sucked my passion for recruitment out of me!!!

I continued to visualise what I really wanted out of my life and business. And there are so many teachings and guides out there to really get clear. If you've ever heard of the 'Law of Attraction' - it's the science of attracting what you 'really' want into your life.

And, I can honestly say I’ve had the best 10 years of my life! I’ve been to the Monaco Grand Prix, ran the Great Wall of China Marathon, and have eaten in many Michelin Starred Restaurants!

Fast forward to 2020 and, it was another moment of digging deep. I remember sitting there in my husband’s empty hair salon, with my team furloughed, no office, no business, and no knowledge of whether I still had a business going forward.

So, I decided to take some serious action to get clear on what I wanted. I took a few days in isolation to really focus. And what shone through was my absolute ‘hunger’ to catapult my business into another spectrum. And that week, I made a decision to stop listening to the negative news stories and concentrate only on the positive growth of my business and brand. Take a leap of faith Helen, and believe it will be ok again.

And, I'm pleased to say, that 'decision' really was a turning point.

Guess what? Everything I wanted, happened. Within a very quick amount of time. One year on, we’ve got our brand new office, 3 new members of staff taking us up to 6, and, in an amazing turn of events, we now also have our brand new business partner!

The future’s bright. What I’ve learned is to make sure that you do take time to dream. Do what works for you, whether it's simple lists, something more visual, or some wonderful Powerpoint presentation to yourself. It simply doesn't matter. What matters, is how clear you can get with what you really want, then just absolutely go for it!!
