Want my advice?
Whether it’s rants about spouses or unsolicited parenting advice, we’ve all seen those Facebook comments that make us cringe. This article from The Wall Street Journal confirms that things can get ugly in mom groups.?
“Moms…have thousands of voices weighing in on their choices, and it’s overwhelming,” says Lauren Amaro, PhD , an associate professor of communication at Pepperdine University who conducted research on the topic with fellow professors. To keep your cortisol in check, it’s best to dabble, not dwell. A mother’s intuition is real, and Diana from ‘Dairy-Free Breastfeeding Mommas’ doesn’t know the intricacies of your life. Or your boobs.
Hear me roar
Most women face self-doubt at some point in their lives. According to Harvard Business Review , more than 70% of women avoid risks because they doubt themselves. And what always falls in the Top 5 list of leadership traits? THE ABILITY TO TAKE RISK!
So, what makes high-achieving women power through their self-doubt? It’s choosing courage over confidence. Even micro acts of courage like speaking up in a meeting can unlock your superpower. The best part is courage breeds courage and confidence is the natural byproduct.?
This quote by Mary Anne Radmacher says it all: “Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’”
Quote we’re crushing on this week (we couldn’t agree more):
"Stay at home moms and working moms are treated like they’re different species, but in fact, they’re usually the same person at different points in their life. Very few people leave the workforce permanently.” – Jessica Grose on a recent episode of Startup Parent podcast with Sarah K Peck .?
THIS WEEK’S EPISODE: Managing People is “Heart Work”
What we’re currently chatting about on Working Mom Hour.
Speaking of courage, Giselle Jones, SPHR, SHRMSCP , former top-10 hospital HR exec and founder of SOAR Consulting , has a saying she likes to live by: “Your passion is waiting for your courage to catch up.” This is just one of many nuggets of wisdom Giselle graced us with in episode 45, where she details how she built her confidence as a woman of color climbing the corporate ladder (and later realizing it was up against the wrong building!).?
Show bombs:?
6:53: I want to have and truly enjoy the highest experience of joy in my life.?
24:36: If you are gonna sit in that executive seat and you’re gonna sit in it as a person of color, you have to be able to watch your ideas go to someone else so that it can be received.?

ON OUR MINDS
I found myself watching dance videos from the beloved Steven “tWitch” Boss today with a heavy heart.
He sparked joy in me and so many. May we extend kindness and compassion to others as we go about our days, as we never know what’s going on between another’s ears. ~ Mads
In December, I put out a basket of snacks on my front porch with a thank you note for the delivery drivers and mail carriers visiting my home (usually multiple times a day).
These stealthy elves help make my holiday season less chaotic - working before the sun comes up, after it goes down and often in cold, wet conditions. It’s a small gesture of gratitude for the very big role they play in making our holidays magical.
However you choose to say thank you to your holiday helpers, know they appreciate the recognition. ~ Erica?
There I was, sucking on a cough drop and sipping on tea when I thought,
“What if you poured boiling water over a cough drop to MAKE tea? As I was preparing my pitch for Shark Tank, after a quick Google search I recognized that yes, it’s already a thing. Bummer for me, but for you, here’s a recipe from Ricola. ~ Marla?
Until next time!
