I have been a big fan of “Wine in a Can” since I tried the Goose Ridge Estate Vineyards and Winery (Washington State) canned wines at the 2016 HIWSF (Hong Kong) where they served the same wine from a bottle and a can- I could not tell the difference.
Cans have the potential to do for wine drinking, what beer cans did for beer drinkers. They are convenient- fit in a purse, portable and almost impossible to spike. The consumer also has a ready reference to how much they have consumed- as opposed to trying to remember how many glasses of wine.
Alas most of the early Wines in a Can (WIC) came from the big companies and were usually fizzy, sweet, God-awful shit. This has significantly hindered the uptake of WIC. More recently Adelaide’s Riot Wine Co were one of the first to put a decent quality varietal wine (non fizzy) into a can with their excellent McLaren Vale Grenache.
Today ’s wine is the logical extension of WIC. Renowned and reputed #barossavalley Winemakers Turkey Flat Vineyards- whose 2016 Grenache was the first ever Grenache to win the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy, have release a 2024 Pinot Gris & 2023 Shiraz Grenache in 250ml cans.
The TURKEY FLAT 2024 BAROSSA PINOT GRIS (250ML) has a big vibrant bouquet of florals & stone fruits, a crisp zippy palate- fresh, lively, easy to drink right now.
BRILLIANT FOR WHEN YOU ARE OUT & ABOUT!!
The TURKEY FLAT 2023 BAROSSA SHIRAZ GRENACHE (250ML) has a deep purple red colour with a gentle bouquet of spices & herbs + smidge of cherries. Smooth slick palate with pleasant elegant flavours.
RARING TO GO
