THIS WEEK’S WINE REVIEW:

?Friday, June 16, 2023:?Wow, talking about Shiraz two weeks in a row (well sort of) as todays wine is the epitome of an Australian blend of Shiraz and Cabernet SAUVIGNON. Either way around, Cab/Shiraz or Shiraz/Cab, this awesome blend was created by and is the domain of the Australian industry. This combo was physically impossible in the “Old World” as the only country that used to grow both of these varieties was France and then they were grown in separate wine regions, let alone the same vineyard. Shiraz is predominantly grown in the Rh?ne, whereas Cabernet resides in Bordeaux. Try planting either in the other’s region and you would end up in jail with your vineyard burned to the ground for being a heretic.

?Well, here in the “New World”, in a fit of “insanity”, lots of heathens planted both varieties in their vineyards and lo-and-behold over time some lunatic blended them together to form our classic red blend.

?Logic suggests/dictates that these two make a lovely couple, as Cabernet often has a flavour hole right in the mid-palate (called the donut effect), whilst Shiraz has its peak of flavour right in the same spot. Put them together and hey-presto you have a great wine where the “whole is greater than the sum of the parts”.

?Today’s wine is a great example of this, it is the Bremerton Best of Vintage 2018 Langhorne Creek Shiraz / Cabernet sauvignon – which is about to be released at the end of the month.

?Wow, what a superb wine! It is deep, dense and almost black in colour and has a hint of maturation complexity tussling with the primary red fruits for ascendency in the graceful, gentle, sophisticated bouquet. The palate is outstanding, being big, mouth-filling, rich and very flavoursome, with a delightful still slightly tight (after five years), long, lingering finish. AWESOME!

?This wine will continue to evolve and blossom over the next few years and become BLOODY MARVELOUS!!
