DAN'S WINE BLOG-THIS WEEK'S WINE REVIEW

2024-04-12

When most people think of Riverland Wine wine they think of the BIG companies producing “metric shit tonnes” of cask and basic commercial wines. Well have I got news for you, there are a small but growing number of superb boutique wineries in the #riverland these days. A number of these bods are producing some of the best Mediterranean Emerging Variety wines in the country, so that these days #riverlandwinerocks.Without going into specifics the wines from 919 Wines, Bassham Wines, Spook Hill Wines, Ricca Terra Farms and Whistling Kite Wines Biodynamic, are the better known Riverland Super Stars, along with permaculture based Back Verandah- Well here is a rapidly rising star that needs to be added to the growing list of outstanding Riverland wine makers, that is Starrs Reach Vineyard.

Starrs Reach Vineyard produce excellent wines, attractively packaged, vegan friendly and sustainably grown. This week’s wine is the fabulous STARRS REACH 2022 #riverlandwine ‘CONFLUENCE’ Mataro/Durif. This is only such blend that I have come across and it works bloody brilliantly.

The wine has lovely purple/red hues, Vivid aromas of red berries & red currants with a whisp of dried herbs on the most attractive bouquet. The palate is mid-depth but very rich lashings of appealing flavours, beautifully rounded and with a lovely, lingering slightly grippy finish. LIP SMACKING STUFF!!!

Well worth a try- it can be found along with their other great wines atwww.starrsreach.com.au Until next week, stay safe and remember to #chooseaustraliawine and when possible enjoy #emergingvarieties

Cheers Dan T
