Danish farmers are currently using satellites and drones to help cultivate 30% of their fields
At SEGES Innovation ’s booth at AGRITECHNICA , European farmers can meet the frontrunners in Europe's digital farming movement at AGRITECHNICA and find new inspiration for intelligent, sustainable agriculture. The guests of the trade fair, which number more than 400,000, can experience four digital tools, which offer new valuable insights and optimise resource consumption at a farm.
Increasingly more farmers in Denmark are utilising resources more efficiently, saving time and sparing the environment through a dedicated focus on precision farming. In Denmark, the trend is crystal clear: In 2020, twelve percent of all fields in Denmark were cultivated using satellite data to ensure that fertilizer was spread more precisely in targeted areas. In 2023, this practice has expanded to a full 30% of Danish agricultural production.
Across all parameters, Denmark is a digital frontrunner, both in the EU and globally, and this also applies to Danish farmers and other companies within the agriculture and food sector. Only Finland surpasses Denmark in the EU's comparison of European countries, published in their annual report, Digital Economy and Society Index.
“Even if Denmark is a relatively small country with a relatively high-cost level, we have very efficient agricultural production and we export foodstuffs to almost every corner of the globe. The ingredients in this recipe for success include proficient farmers who invest ambitiously in green optimisation. For example, this involves the use of advanced software for distributing fertiliser in the exact quantities necessary. We are looking forward to sharing the valuable experience of Danish farmers with the European agricultural sector when we meet at AGRITECHNICA,” says Jesper Riber Nielsen , Director Digital Crops, SEGES Innovation .
At the international agricultural technology trade fair, AGRETECHNICA, guests this year can meet a key player in the digitisation of agriculture: The innovation company SEGES Innovation, which performs research, innovates and develops digital tools for the agriculture and food industry. The company will present the following four products to guests of the trade fair: CropManager , FarmTracking, CRiskA and TraceIT.
“As an independent, non-profit company, SEGES Innovation is truly special: We use digitisation to get research results to work out in the field. ?It is a big advantage for our users that the entire process is in CropManager. This way, when a farmer prepares distribution files, it is based on the current fertilising plan, and then data is easily transferred to the machines via a cloud solution. Farmers no longer have to carry their data around on a USB flash drive. We have made sure that all this is easy and user friendly, so that the day’s tasks can be performed while making coffee in the morning,” explains Jesper Riber Nielsen.
Tools that can also be used for food traceability and a safe working environment In Denmark, CropManager and FarmTracking have found widespread use, and are now used on 1.5 of Denmark’s 2.6 million farmed hectares. Most recently, CropManager was expanded with a function for optimal handling of organic fertiliser. SEGES Innovation is also collaborating with the large machine manufacturers, such as John Deere and CNH, on communication solutions. Guests of the trade fair can also learn about the working environment tool CRiskA, which is a product that guides farmers towards establishing proper safety at work. At AGRITECHNICA, SEGES Innovation will also present its new solution, TraceIT, which helps establish traceability and transparency across the entire food value chain.
This is why Denmark’s farming and food sector is as strong as it is
OECD determines that the potential of big data solely for farming constitutes a productivity increase of 5 percent. Companies that rely on data-driven decisions are 5 percent more productive and have 6 percent higher revenue than their competitors.
·???????? Danish agriculture and the entire value chain in the food sector produce large quantities of data. In part, this is due to a high level of automation and the authorities’ requirement for documentation of food quality when Danish producers ship food to consumers all over the world.

·???????? There are great opportunities in combining data across the links in the value chain of the food industry because Denmark has such a high level of digitisation.
·???????? Denmark has a strong food sector. This is in part because all the components of the value chain work closely together. From the primary producers and the processing industry to the agro industry and the knowledge research environments. Effective resource utilisation and focus on optimisation across the entire value chain enables the sector to compete on the world market.
·???????? Danish food companies have always been good at developing new business models and finding innovative ways to increase value creation. Examples include smarter ways to produce and deliver products or incorporating more value into the products so that they can be sold with higher margins.

What is SEGES Innovation?
SEGES Innovation is an independent innovation company that has developed knowledge and specific solutions for sustainable production of foodstuffs for over 50 years. The in-depth knowledge of agriculture and foodstuffs is translated, among other things, into advanced software that focuses on optimising the production and financial situation of farmers.
CropManager is a program for professional precision farming. One of the features of the program is that it allows farmers to perform position-based distribution and send the files directly to the machines.
