Danielle Newnham's Friday 5
Looking for something to watch, read, listen to this weekend? As promised, I have scoured the internet to find five pieces of content I think you'll love, including a podcast recommendation, quote, interview, book and film. Here goes!
PODCAST
This week has highlighted the need for more understanding when it comes to mental health. Founders are not far off elite athletes when it comes to having to consistently perform in high pressure environments. And yet, founders are ill prepared - no one tells you how tough it's going to get and no one knows how much resilience you are going to need as a startup founder. But one thing is true, the earlier you understand and prepare for optimal mental health on this unique journey, the better. This week's podcast recommendation is Village Global's Emotional Fitness For Founders with Dr Emily Anhalt . In this episode, Erik Torenberg and Dr Emily Anhalt discuss:

QUOTE
“We’re here to put a dent in the universe. Otherwise why else even be here?”
―?Steve Jobs
This week, I shared my podcast episode with Andy Hertzfeld . Andy not only worked with Steve on the Macintosh but he was a trusted friend. In the interview, we discussed the lessons he learned from Steve, his seminal work on the Mac, the highs and lows of starting General Magic, and the advice he'd give his younger self. Listen here. INTERVIEW
I went down a rabbit hole. Wanting to learn more about Katalin Karikó, the Hungarian biochemist whose four decades worth of mRNA research led to the mRNA technology being used in two successful Covid-19 vaccines - Pfizer-BioNTech’s and Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccines - I found this great interview . It has been translated from Italian and well-worth a read because it's an incredibly inspiring story of a woman who came from nothing and literally helped save the world.
"The past is the past. I myself am used to thinking about what I can still do, not about what I have achieved."

BOOK
I am afraid there won't be a newsletter over the next two Fridays as I will be away and this is the first book I am packing - The Big Score by Michael S Malone (Stripe Press). The only contemporary history of the birth of Silicon Valley from the reporter who had a ringside seat to it all.
Over the past five decades, the tech industry has grown into one of the most important sectors of the global economy, and Silicon Valley - replete with sprawling office parks, sky-high rents, and countless self-made millionaires - is home to many of its key players. But the origins of Silicon Valley and the tech sector are much humbler. At a time when tech companies' influence continues to grow,?The Big Score?chronicles how they all began.

FILM
Following on from the history of Silicon Valley theme, Something Ventured was recommended to me recently and it's a must watch if you are interested in how it all began. It includes interviews with some of the founders and investors in tech's most formative companies including Intel, Genentech, Atari, Google, Cisco and Apple.
Watch it here.
I hope you have enjoyed this week's newsletter and see you in two weeks.
