Daniel Skinner, Director of Legal Services

Getting the best advice to make sure we’re doing what is best for residents is a priority for us. We’re therefore proud to have attracted ranked lawyer Daniel Skinner to join our Housing Team.

Daniel has been one of the sector’s leading housing management experts for many years. As a partner in several of the leading social housing firms, he’s been advising housing associations since 1993. He’s been working with Poplar HARCA since 2008.

Why the move from solicitor firm to Poplar HARCA?

‘I want to contribute more directly to supporting communities. I’ve always been impressed by Poplar HARCA’s purpose, and its investment in communities. I’ve worked with the Housing Team for many years and have seen the effectiveness of its early intervention ethos to help residents sustain their homes. When the opportunity to join the Team came up, I couldn’t resist applying.’

What does a Director of Legal Services do?

‘The role is to provide the Housing Team with advice and support. As I’m now one of the Team we can tackle things more quickly, which further supports even earlier intervention.

‘My legal expertise is in all the areas that the Housing Team are responsible for, from anti-social behaviour to tenancies and leases, to rents and service charges.’

And when Daniel’s not lawyering?

Daniel Chairs his local Parish Council and was recently appointed Chair of a small housing association that specialises in supported housing for older people. For many years he has hosted the annual Big Housing Quiz in support of Women’s Aid. He plays sport and spends much of his time coaching and promoting women’s and girls’ football.
