Dangerous parenting dogmas!!!

Just read a ‘Parenting for the 21st century’ article which spoke about a kind-of spectrum of parenting as defined by the parents’ involvement in their child’s day-to-day activities, ranging from ‘Tiger Mom Parenting’ at one end and ‘Free-range Parenting’ at the other end with ‘Helicopter Parenting’ & ‘Snowplough Parenting’ somewhere in between. They had detailed Dos & Don’ts for each of these types of parenting.

It was BIZARRE!!!

While all these ‘formats’ of parenting seemed well documented and are possibly well researched ?????♂? , I wonder how can ALL of parenting be encompassed into just one methodology? I mean, at various times in various stages of a child’s growing up, every parent plays a different role. In some cases, the two (or 3 or 4) parents play varied roles amongst them. Sometimes you need to support your child, sometimes tough love is needed. Sometimes you just need to humour them and cut them some slack and sometimes you need to kick their ass… I don’t understand this ‘standardisation’…

Also, the article took no cognisance of parenting-at-large that’s done by same-age friends, elder friends, cousins, elder cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles and the community that one grows up in…

And now I’m wondering what must be happening to people who read this stuff, take it at face-value, ignore their natural parenting impulses and blindly follow these ‘doctrines’. ?????♂?

This stuff is dogmatic & bloody dangerous!!!
