Dangerous Goods Planning for Road Shipments.

Dangerous Goods Planning for Road Shipments.

Introduction?

What is a Dangerous Good?

A "Dangerous Good" refers to any substance or material that poses a risk to health, safety, property, or the environment during transportation or handling. These goods are regulated because they can cause significant harm if not properly managed. Examples include explosives, flammable liquids, toxic chemicals, corrosive substances, and radioactive materials.?

Dangerous goods are classified into different classes based on the type of risk they present. These classes include:?

Class 1: Explosives?

Class 2: Gases?

Class 3: Flammable liquids?

Class 4: Flammable solids, substances liable to spontaneous combustion?

Class 5: Oxidizing substances and organic peroxides?

Class 6: Toxic and infectious substances?

Class 7: Radioactive material?

Class 8: Corrosives?

Class 9: Miscellaneous dangerous goods (e.g., environmentally hazardous substances)?

Dangerous Goods Regulations?

Handling and transporting dangerous goods require strict adherence to safety regulations, proper labelling, packaging, and documentation to ensure they do not pose a threat during their movement from one location to another.?

With this function, you ensure that each master data record is assigned to the correct regulation. Each time you create or change the dangerous goods (DG) master data record, you must enter the regulation on which the record is based. Each regulation is identified uniquely by a language-dependent abbreviation. The following are the most common regulations:??

  • ADR: DG Regulation in Europe for transportation of hazardous materials by road.??
  • RID: DG Regulation in Europe for transportation of hazardous materials by rail.??
  • AND: DG Regulation in Europe for transportation of hazardous materials by waterway.??
  • IMDG: International Maritime Code for Dangerous Goods DG Regulation. International DG Regulation for transportation on the high seas.??
  • IATA-DGR: International Air Transport Association Dangerous Goods Regulations?

What is ADR?

ADR, or the "Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises Dangereuses par Route," is a key concept in supply chain management for handling Dangerous Goods (DG). It refers to the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road.?

Here’s a breakdown of ADR’s role:?

  • Regulation and Safety: This includes requirements for packaging, labelling, documentation, and vehicle standards.?

  • Compliance: Compliance involves adhering to protocols for handling, loading, and transporting dangerous goods.?

  • Training: ADR mandates that drivers, handlers, and other personnel receive specialized training to manage DG safely and respond to emergencies.?

  • Documentation: ADR requires specific information about the dangerous goods to be available and accurate, including the nature of the hazards and emergency response procedures.?

  • International Transport: ADR is recognized across many European countries, facilitating cross-border transport by ensuring a common safety framework?

? Configuration details? ?

STEP 1 – Activating Business Functions “SCM_EHS_DG_CI_1”?

Activate the business function SCM_EHS_DG_CI_1. The business function activates the DG Mixed Loading Check functionality. Transaction Code SFW5.

Caution – Once done this action and changes can’t be reversed.?

STEP 2 – Making DG Services Active?

Under this we can set environment parameter ‘DG_SERVICES_ACTIVE’ to Active.?

Menu Path – SPRO->Transportation management->Basic functions->Dangerous goods->PS&S Services-Basic services->Specify environment parameters as in below image.

STEP 3 –Define DG Activation Setting.??

STEP 4 –Defining Dangerous Goods Profile.?

?STEP 5 - Assignment of DG Profile at FU and FO type.?

?

STEP 6 - Defining Points-Relevant Quantities for ADR 1.1.3.6 DG Exemption

Menu Path - SPRO->Transportation management->Basic functions->Dangerous goods-> Dangerous Goods Processing Based On PS&S-> Define Points-Relevant Quantities for ADR 1.1.3.6 DG Exemption?

?

STEP 7 – Making FUBR relevant for ADR Calculation.?

Here you can update FUBR with the max number of ADR points. Once FU crosses these points the FU will set with ADR Flag.?

STEP 8 – Setting Up Condition 1.?

We need to maintain 2 conditions which later needs to be assigned to Incompatibility.??

1st of them would be for making a Freight Unit relevant for ADR.?

?

?

STEP 9 – Setting Up Condition 2.?

In 2nd condition, we filter out ADR relevant Resources.?

STEP 10 – Creating Incompatibility?

Now we need to create an Incompatibility between the ADR FUs and a Non-ADR Resource so this while planning only ADR resources are gets picked when total DG points cross 1000 Mark and visa versa.?

?

STEP 11 – Master Data for Materials “DG Indicator Profile”?

Under this we can mark a material as relevant for DG checks and Documentation.?

Step 12.1 – Dangerous Goods Master Records (DGP1 to Create)?

Here material can be mapped with its relevant DG Regulations.

?

Step 12.2 – Dangerous Goods Master Records (DGP2 to Edit)?

To open the created DG master records.?

Step 12.3 – Dangerous Goods Master Records (DGP2 to Edit)?

Here you need to set ‘Processing Status’ active and input ‘Multiplication Factor’ to the material for DG points calculation under “Exceptions tab”.??

Step 13 – Making A Resource ADR relevant.?

?

Expected Result?

Case 1 –??

Non-ADR Relevant Freight Unit – 4100233303/ SO - 2900.?

Below screen show the result when total DG points does not cross 1000 DG mark.?

?

Planning A Non-ADR Freight Unit?

Now in the Transportation cockpit we can plan the Non-ADR FU and see the results.?

Expected result is that the FU gets plan even with a Non-ADR resource without any issue with Optimizer based planning.?

?

Optimizer Based Planning for Non-ADR FU.?

?

?

?

?

Case 2??

ADR Relevant Freight Unit – 4100233306, Order – 2903?

Below screen show the result when total DG points cross 1000 DG marks and the ADR relevant flag gets active.?

Planning FU via Optimizer for the expected results.?

?

Summary

With this document we learnt how to plan the transportation in SAP TM for a Dangerous good with less efforts allowing optimizer to select ADR or Non-ADR resources based on the total DG points in the freight unit as per the given calculation.?
