DANGER: Spend on AI as a function of SLFP and FOMO2. Be critical but don't freeze! CAUTION: post created with Human Intelligence only!
With AI spawning tools and startups every second of the day, many of them find a way into your business. Costing money? Not directly as in 'out-of-pocket' but a good deal of time in your business today is spend on ambitious employees running around with a hammer, looking for reasons to call everything they come across a nail.
And why is no-one calling them to order? Because of a couple of reasons, the healthiest one is to avoid being the one to misjudge the best next thing since sliced bread. Calling people to calm down and carry on is probably the most underestimated but most valuable act a leadership can do here.
Why? Simply because there is no silver-bullet to success and there are no quick wins to eternal glory. And if you think there is (e.g., with AI) please leave a comment below and I will follow up with you in person to understand your argument.
What to do? Understanding the situation is solving it in part already. The better you understand your challenges, particularly in allocating resources, understanding how and where you spend money to deliver value to your customers is a great start.
Identifying and listing all possible areas for improvement it makes good sense to rank them according to impact. Given the impact, brainstorm high-level ideas on fulfillment. Ranging from Harry Potter solutions to blood, sweat and tears. No doubt, some AI tools are not yet invented but a few may have. At this point it's a good idea to check ideas with trusted advisors, that could be suppliers, industry experts and the like.
Finally, rank based on their ease to implement (preferably on the high-impact area's). Design experiments and seek funding (including company-staff-time) and priority consensus.
