Dancing and Growing at ChenMed: Evelyn Suero's Story

The sounds of merengue and bachata are what Evelyn Suero loves best about her Dominican heritage. " I love that we can make any activity into a party! We’re lively, fun people!" she says with a smile on her face.

Like many young Hispanic Americans, Evelyn arrived in the U.S. at a very young age. Her parents were born in the Dominican Republic, but she was born in Puerto Rico, an American territory. Her family moved to South Florida in search of a better life, but she recalls her visits to the island. " As a young child, I visited the Dominican Republic during a couple of summers and my favorite memory was showering in the rain. Since running water is scarce at times, this was not only necessary but very fun!"

When she's not dancing, she loves to eat?pollo guisado. This is chicken stewed for hours in tomato and herb sauce. She loves when it's served with white rice, red beans, maduros (sweet plantains), and avocado slices.

Evelyn is a veteran ChenMedder with 15 years under her belt. Yes, you read that right. 15 years! She started as a front desk receptionist at one of our medical centers and slowly worked her way working to our headquarters in Miami Gardens, Florida. Today, she's serving patients as the Manager of Service Excellence. " I love being a resource to our centers and Home Office when needing to communicate with patients and our team members via text messages. I am very passionate about helping people and building processes and my job allows me to marry these two worlds."

"Seek challenging opportunities that promote personal and professional growth..."

These 15 years do not go without some incredible accomplishments. In 2010, she helped to design and build our very first in-house billing application." This enabled us to increase the number of diagnoses submitted per encounter from 6 to 12 which greatly benefited us from a billing standpoint."

If she could offer advice to any looking to move up within ChenMed, she shares, "Seek challenging opportunities that promote personal and professional growth; adopt a few mentors and over-communicate your wants and goals."

We're growing at ChenMed, which means we're hiring too. We have various jobs available including the same ones that Evelyn had when she started at ChenMed. Look for job opportunities here.
