I'm an emotional intelligence coach. And I'm also a therapist.
But ... I also have a confession for you today....
I have been sliding into burnout. I'm a creative over achiever! And it's been a problem. I created a video to hold myself accountable (subscribe to my youtube channel - more coming up)
I've been ignoring all of the signals completely.
One. I've been getting more tired.
Two. I've been working a lot later than normal.
And three. My sleep has been variable.
When friends want to see me. The answer's no! (So there's something going on).
Emotional intelligence. It's not just about empathizing. And stepping into other people's shoes. How about....
...empathizing
...and stepping into
your own shoes!
I have written a book called "Navigating Stress." I've been re-reading it. Because as a business owner... I'm chasing something. There's a phrase called 'chasing the dragon' (it's slang for taking heroin). But... perhaps business is a drug?? Business is a drug and I've been chasing it?

STRESS REDUCTION STRATEGY :
In the other hand is the happiness jar. Let's call it my JOY JAR.
You have to try and find some balance between the two.
I'm being a little bit more mindful about it. That means I am paying attention a lot more. Because my health matters to me.
ENJOYING BUSINESS AGAIN
But it doesn't mean that I'm ignoring my business. I'm actually enjoying my business. And I'm doing it with much more enthusiasm. Much more interest. ...Filling up my Joy Jar - And reducing my stress jar. Because business isn't easy.
Entrepreneurs are driven. Are motivated. And we give it 110%. That's all good for a short time. Attack projects In sprints...
Give yourself the grace and the space. To build your business empire in a more timely fashion. Without jeopardizing your health. Without jeopardizing your happiness.
So s-l-o-w down.
I'm slowing down. (I didn't say the word stop!). Just slowing and taking the Revs down.
I would love to hear about your experiences - drop a note in the comments below.
I'll be including more ideas like this in my Newsletter too! - remember to subscribe if you want more Business Therapy Notes.

1 年JOY Langley I love your honesty here and can only relate to a time where I felt like this. I try to put 1% extra into my joy jar each day, to help distance myself and the inevitable burn out of social media ?? Thanks so much for sharing!!

1 年Boy, so many things I can relate to in this post JOY Langley ! The most important thing is balance yes, but recognizing when you're doing a poor job of balancing and actively deciding to do something about rather than let that burnt out feeling slide into a full crash and burn. Hang in there my friend ... I've got your back.

1 年JOY Langley, I hear you on this one! We are both on the same boat and we have sprung a small leak that is letting in water at a rate that we are currently capable of bailing out. Still, some days it feels like the hole is getting bigger and the water levels are getting higher... and when focusing on bailing we are not focusing on paddling. Well-timed article my friend! ??
