Dancing with AI
Yeah. I was skeptical. A friend introduced me to a writing assistant tool about 3 months ago. I thought I should at least try it. I had been thinking about a fiction piece I wanted to write, but was having trouble with the opening scene. If there were a way an AI tool could jumpstart my short story, I was open to trying it.
What the AI came back with wasn't exactly right, but I saw the potential immediately. It was enough of a kickstart that I could shape the opening scene myself.
I then realized this tool could be enormously helpful for a pro bono project I had been working on helping a friend with her speeches. With a few easy prompts, the speechwriting was a breeze. It definitely saved me at least an hour's time.
All this was before ChatGPT came out.
As they say, ChatGPT changed everything. Suddenly, it was clear how present AI would become in all our lives. Especially writers' lives.

Like every other technology advance that's come before, e.g., email, desktop publishing, GPS, it takes some getting used to and you live without it– until you can't.
This week, Notion admitted me to their AI beta. I've already unleashed it on our team bios, a press release, an article one of our Insights Analysts wrote, and a pitch to a potential partner. It's an amazing tool that not only saves time, but makes work life easier and better at the same time.
Feels to me that every professional in the world will soon be taking advantage of AI to improve their work experience. Like, really soon. It took me 3 months to be 100% comfortable with it.
