Dana’s Purpose (7/24/80-9/17/21)

?Remembering Dana’s Light and Love – Three Years Later

I have always believed that it is possible to feel both grief and gratitude.

Three years ago today, I said goodbye to my beautiful daughter, Dana.

She sadly lost her 20 year battle with addiction, but she continues to inspire me with her legacy of love for which I am forever grateful.

She lived with inspiration, determination, courage, and goodness. She was loved by all who knew her, and her memory continues to be a blessing.

Her journey and our journey together are parts of her legacy—stories of struggle, love, pain, and hope that I feel called to share.

I found this message below from her when I was cleaning out my basement a couple weeks ago.

I think she may have made it as a reminder to me - and to us all.

I believe in living each day filled with love, laughter and gratitude.

To always remember my inner strength and obstacles.

I want to display acceptance of self and others.

I want to use my experience to help others & to give back to the world.

I want to cultivate a life filled with friends, family, health and honesty.

I want to demonstrate how acceptance is the answer and how we are filled with goodness.

I want to be able to show that even if you fall off the path you thought you should be on, there are more to follow by taking the next right step & doing the next right thing.

I Will Live with A PURPOSE!!

Dana's memory inspires me to keep living with purpose, and I hope it inspires you too.

Her journey and our journey together are parts of her legacy—stories of struggle, love, pain, and hope that I feel called to share.

I’ve written my entire life, and now, I want to offer a piece of my heart through a chapter of my book, An Addict's Mother: Loving Your Child and Yourself. It's for any parent who has ever loved a child with addiction. My hope is that it brings comfort, understanding, and a sense of not being alone.

You can read the chapter and get a video message here .

May it offer some light on your path.

Sending much love,

Linda

What is your purpose?

  • How can we honor the legacies of those we’ve lost?
  • What steps can we take today to fill our lives with love, laughter, and gratitude?
