That Damn Mask, Sober Days, and a Challenge to YOU
"The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can't be any large-scale revolution until there's a personal revolution, on an individual level. It's got to happen inside first."
6:24 a.m., it’s Tuesday, but feels like Monday. We had a long weekend; I turned 50, we had a bevy of family and friends over to help me celebrate. I’m am one of the most blessed men you will meet today.
So, are you really you? Are you really the person you show others, or is there someone hiding in under your mask? I’ve lived a few lives evolving, devolving, drinking, not drinking, but today I am a culmination of my time on this earth. There is no mask; it was shredded years ago. I am finally whom I was designed to be.
The grandfather clock just chimed, reminding me that time is passing, I’ve got a lot on my plate this week, jobs, duties, things I need to tend to that will keep our machine running.
Here’s a fun fact; my calves are sore. It’s like I did hours upon hours of calve workouts, but I did no such thing. I think walking up the stairs, and constant entertaining of people reminded me I need to work out a little more. Cheers to my body, I hear you loud and clear, I will do better.
I’m scheduled for a massage today at 6:00. The one thing I know about a massage is that I don’t get enough massages. We signed up for massage envy a few years ago; we go about three times a year, we have a few extra we need to give away.
I opted not to drink yesterday; I think I will do the same today. I’ve over 50 days of not drinking; I’m on pace to hit my goal of 100 days of sobriety for 2019. My mind and body are not stupid; they are on to my tricks and tempt me to make up for the lack of booze the days I do drink. I’m starting to figure that little wrinkle out and will improve my management. Life is a constant series of little classes and lessons; we must always be aware, we must never stop learning.
We will be in Indianapolis until Friday morning. We will get on a plane and head with our daughter to Colorado. We’re spending the week there and next Thursday and Friday I’ll do my next boom camp. We had one opening on Friday; I think we will fill it, we will have a full class, that makes me happy. I truly believe I am helping change an industry one person at a time.
Join me in ripping off that mask you hide behind. Be yourself; everyone else is taken (Wilde). Your God made you, so be an individual. It’s time you start showing your true colors and flavors. Stop hiding, announce to the world your existence. You taste, smell, and act different than every other human on this planet, so stand up, get moving, and change the world.
