Damietta delivers its first LNG cargo after more than 8 years idle
In August 2000, Union Fenosa Gas (UFG) signed with the Egyptian Authorities the first natural gas export contract in Egypt by virtue of which UFG committed to build in Damietta the world's largest liquefaction train by the time.
The project was successfully completed and the Plant delivered its first shipment in 2005.
Unfortunately, Damietta LNG was shut down in 2012 due to a lack of gas supply. However, during all these years SEGAS team has acted diligently to preserve and maintain the asset ready-to-start waiting for this moment.
After eight years of litigation and tough commercial negotiations, the agreement to settle the disputes and to re-start Plant operations was announced in December 2020.
Following this annoucement, in less than two months, supplies were resumed and the Plant has been successfully re-started.
Today, SEGAS has delivered the first shipment of a new era for Damietta LNG Plant. It has been possible only because a great-engaged team have worked tirelessly during all these years.
Congrats to all involved: Egyptian Authorities, UFG's shareholders, subcontractors and advisors, and very specially to the entire UFG and SEGAS team. Great achievement!
