Most of us know the effects the sun has on us with its powerful UVA and UVB rays that can cause skin damage - if you don't then you need to have a read of my article from last week about the effects of a sun tan...
How many of you know the truth about Blue Light though??We are in an age where many of us spend a large section of our day using an electric device one way or another, whether it's a phone, a tablet, a watch or a facial device.
How many of you consider the affect it has on our bodies??A lot more than you think.
Blue light can be artificial and from the sun. Unlike the sun’s UV rays that we can’t see but can certainly feel, blue light is the opposite; you can see blue light, but you can’t feel its heat. Blue Light is emitted by the sun and artificially by devices. It isn't harmful when exposed to small amounts but the high amount we are being exposed to now has led researchers to study how this will evolve and affect our health in the long-run.

It causes eye strain which contributes to the formation of wrinkles as well as lack of sleep, leading to dark circles. It also damages skin by increasing oxidative stress, damaging DNA tissue, and weakening our collagen and elastin in the skin. It also accelerates signs of aging, and can lead to hyperpigmentation or sun spots!
To help your skin, you can limit your time spent on devices and when that isn't possible, make sure you take breaks when you can to reduce your exposure to the blue light being omitted. Some devices do have an option to turn off blue light or dim it completely so using this will help your skin hugely!
