Dallas AI Updates - Q1 2024

Dallas AI Updates - Q1 2024

As first quarter of the year comes to a close, we wanted to recap and highlight various activities and events of interest.

First, thanks to the wonderful engagement to the events that we organized. As you may have noticed, we are expanding the variety of programs and events. Our goal is to focus tailored events for our audience: developers, executives, professionals, students, women and more. Below you will find some highlights from our Q1 events and other notable AI related activities in DFW.

Second, Q1 is marked by more AI events and activities in DFW than ever before. Dallas AI team - Aamer Charania and Babar Bhatti - attended some of these events and we can tell you that the energy and vibe for AI is definitely different now than previous years.

We want to start by sharing about the two new Plug and Play centers, both launched on March 26: one in McKinney and the other in Frisco. It was great to hear the stories from the Plug and Play founder and CEO Saeed Amidi and overview of the PnP from Michael Olmstead and other team members.

Plug and Play Tech Centers launched in DFW - 2024

The McKinney center has a keen focus on enterprise AI and Fintech technologies. For more details, please see this post by Michael Talley , SVP of Economic Development Council, McKinney.

“Plug and Play Texas will serve as a catalyst for growth for the entire state, a connective tissue between otherwise disparate parties in the innovation value chain. Our mission is to serve as a key statewide economic driver by attracting new business, advancing technology innovation, and becoming one of the most active venture capital investors in Texas companies.”

We look forward to working with MEDC team Michael Talley and Mike Wilkes on planning more AI activities.

The Frisco event was also a big hit with attendance by city officials, chamber members, business leaders, entrepreneurs and guests.

AI Connex - a new organization - also hosted a networking event and AI in Automotive talk at Toyota Connected.

Dallas AI Events This Quarter

The 'Women in AI ' event attracted a large number of women (and men!) interested in promoting women in technology and demystifying AI. Our special thanks to Valerie Freeman , who is an advisor to Dallas AI, for leading and moderating a great panel and for inspiring the audience.

Panel speakers included:

The speakers inspired the audience, encouraged them to explore various tech and business roles in AI and to network for finding career opportunities. They shared their life stories, how they got into AI and what they do in their work.

We are thankful to the many mentions and notes of thanks.

February Events and Activities

Dallas AI participated in the Capital Factory Feb event, The Future of AI Salon, where Dave Copps, Chris Rohde & Ross Bates of Worlds.io announced the launch of WorldsNQ , their latest AI breakthrough. WorldsNQ operationalizes real-world AI for the largest industrial enterprises globally.

Dallas AI also promoted the AI 75 nomination campaign in partnership with Dallas Innovates, and Dallas Regional Chamber (DRC). The intention of the program is to recognize the most innovative people in artificial intelligence in Dallas-Fort Worth. The inaugural list of honorees will be revealed in May at the Convergence AI Dallas conference at the Irving Convention Center. At this full-day conference, the DRC will bring together a diverse set of leaders, from executives to entrepreneurs, to hear about the latest trends and innovations in artificial intelligence.

Coming to our own programs, we had two programs - a workshop and a leadership roundtable.

On Feb 17, Dallas AI organized a workshop, 'Which Large Language Model Should You Use ' led by Babar Bhatti. The focus of this program was to educate and guide the practitioners and decision makers about practical considerations to use Generative AI for business. See our LinkedIn page for more details about the content and discussion details.

In February Dallas AI also hosted our very first, invite-only event for AI leaders. The purpose of this 'AI Leadership Roundtable' was to bring together various stakeholders in DFW to discuss the state of AI in Dallas and how to accelerate and facilitate making Dallas a hub for AI at par with other global regions. The event was attended by select business leaders, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, academia / Texas Research Alliance Dallas Regional Chamber representatives and more. If you are interested in attending future AI Leadership events, please contact Dallas AI leadership.

As part of our work with schools in DFW, Aamer Charania and Babar Bhatti spoke at the 美国德克萨斯大学阿灵顿分校 Business Analytics Symposium on March 8. The goal of this event was to bring together hundreds of industry, academia and professionals. The event also included quality presentations by students. We are grateful to the organizers for the opportunity to share our thoughts.

Finally, Aamer Charania and Babar Bhatti gave a virtual presentation for the AI Alliance Speaker Series for Texas Research Alliance.
