Dali Update - Day 3

Dali Update - Day 3

Very few updates today.

As you've likely read in the news, the NTSB and Coast Guard have ensured the crew is safe, fed, and has allowed a certain NGO (a maritime religious service group) to aid them in communicating with their families, and working through ability to go on shore in the near future.

The question as to whether fuel was onboarded in Baltimore or the prior-port call in NJ (Port of NY/NJ, in Elizabeth). The system to record that fueling in either locale does NOT have an entry in it currently. However, FuelTrust estimated the fuel usage from Busan to NY and then to MD, and the capacity of the ship's tanks would require refueling before departing Baltimore.

We have traced 4 possible fuel vectors (eg, supply chain routes) ..and with that, we will stop. We're not reporters, though our CEO has spent 20 hours on the phone with them over the last 2 days.

None of the known parties involved is a current client of ours, and we suspect that we might be intruding into the investigation, or stoking conspiracists. We certainly are reaching out to those companies beginning next week to see if we can help them avoid potential issues in the future.

We will continue to answer questions from government officials and provide reporters with "facts and only facts". FuelTrust is a teller of the truth, and we try not to insert opinions where facts are slim. In this case - there are 3 key facts that investigators likely have, but which do not appear in the systems where they should, and therefore we don't have them. This is likely because that data is impounded, or sitting on someone's desk who can't get off the phone because of this terrible tragedy.

We commend the crew. Truly. Our maritime experience tells us they acted unbelievably fast - both to attempt to regain power and steering, as well as notifying the port control of the danger to the bridge. This saved lives, and was the only thing they could have done with a crippled ship.

FuelTrust's whole reason for being is to help maritime companies - both fuel providers and fuel buyers, to ensure the fuel supply chain is robust, transparent, and highly reliable, including lowering the emissions from fuels. As such, as most of the indicators here point to a fuel issue (whether contamination, clogging, or a multi-point fuel-system failure) - this is exactly the scenario we want to prevent.

It is our sincere goal to assist fleets, fuel providers, and federal authorities to overcome the century-long plague of fuel fraud, contamination, and pollution in the global shipping marketplace.
