“Milk does a body good.â€
Do you remember this popular slogan that came out of the dairy industry? Millions of dollars were pumped into this, and other, ad campaigns to convince you dairy in the form of cheese, milk, butter, yogurt, and ice cream is good for you.
The truth is, milk, as well as all other dairy, does not do a body good. In fact, just the opposite is true. https://www.mic.com/articles/102698/milk-does-not-do-a-body-good
Yet, with the campaigns the dairy industry promotes AND government subsidized programs, many people are led to believe dairy is healthy. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Milk and other dairy products are the top source of saturated fat in the American diet, contributing to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease. Studies have also linked dairy to an increased risk of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers.
Government Subsidization
For the most part, dairy is affordable to majority of the population due to subsidization. If there were no government subsidization, dairy would be financially restrictive for a great many people.
Additionally, the US government’s support for dairy farms amplifies overproduction and supports an unsustainable, dying industry, wasting billions of taxpayer dollars.?
According to Northeastern University Political Review post…
American farmers dump millions of gallons of excess milk a year. In 2016, the American dairy industry drained 43 million gallons of excess milk in fields, animal feed, or anaerobic lagoons. In the shortsighted interest of keeping farms in business, the federal government purchases billions of dollars’ worth of excess milk, which is stored as cheese. As of 2019, the USDA has 1.4 billion pounds of surplus cheese.
Billions in Dairy Industry Subsidization
One year after the passage of the Agricultural Act of 2014—which reformed commodity and crop insurance programs—the American government spent $24.7 billion in direct and indirect subsidies. Subsequently, the dairy industry received $43 billion in 2016 and $36.3 billion in 2017.
Truth in Advertising is a Lie
Ad campaigns are meant to sway your opinion resulting in you spending money on a product and/or service. When it comes to the dairy industry, untold amounts of money are spent on ad campaigns to convince you dairy is healthy.
The truth is, dairy advertisers, are more interested in the bottom line than on the consumers’ health. Dairy ad campaigns have been very deceptive, with very little, if any, concern for the consumer.
Lactose Intolerance
While the propaganda and ad campaigns lead one to believe that dairy is healthy a great many people are lactose intolerant. Symptoms of lactose intolerance range from mild discomfort to severe illness, even death in some cases.
Add to this other health problems that are a result of a high fat diet, there is a lot of educating to do to reveal the truth of how truly unhealthy dairy is.
COVID Health Problems Amplified
There is plenty of evidence that a diet high in fat include potential health problems like heart disease, certain cancers, digestive problems, and type 1 diabetes. All of these are considered comorbidities.
Amazingly, many of the people who are diagnosed with COVID-19 who require hospitalization have underlying conditions that are a result of comorbidity.

Common comorbid conditions include heart disease, hypertension, respiratory disease, mental health problems (including dementia), cerebrovascular disease, joint disease, diabetes and sensory impairment.
Sadly, when the number of people hospitalized due to complications from COVID are blasted at us on local and national news shows throughout the day, rarely are underlying causes mentioned.
The numbers make many people feel helpless with many thinking they are at the mercy of the virus when in fact, there are things we can all do to minimize our risk of complications.
Incorporating a healthy diet, void of dairy, is a huge step in the right direction.
If more attention were put on how to minimize complications, we would likely not see the number of hospitalizations we are seeing.
This is not to minimize the need to take precautions to avoid contracting the virus such as social distancing, washing hands, wearing masks when out in public, and other common sense strategies, but it is also meant to shine the spotlight on how misleading much of the information we are being fed by the media actually is.
Doesn’t it seem reasonable to eliminate dairy from one’s diet if in fact, they would minimize their risk for health complications?
Alongside comorbidity and multimorbidity comes polypharmacy which is the prescription of many medications.
Your Tax Dollars Subsidize Big Pharma
Like the dairy industry, big pharma spends untold amounts of money on ad campaigns to promote the next miracle drug. Never mind that every drug comes with ample warnings of side effects, many of which require more drugs to counter the side effects.
Additionally, billions of dollars are funneled into pharmaceutical companies in the form of subsidization.
Since the start of the race for a COVID-19 vaccine, the U.S. government has funneled more than $10 billion in taxpayers dollars to pharmaceutical companies through contracts for the expedited innovation of a vaccine.
Animal Cruelty
Finally, an aspect of consuming dairy is cruelty to animals due to factory farming. While 75 percent of US adults believe they usually buy ‘humane products’, only one percent of farmed animals are raised on non-factory farms.
That’s right, an estimated 99 percent of farmed animal in the US are living on factory farms at present, according to an analysis from the Sentience Institute (SI).
Factory farming is cruel to animals and terrible for humans’ health. By choosing to give up dairy, we can not only minimize health risks, but we can also minimize cruelty to animals.
Vegan Options
Giving up dairy does not mean you have to give up your favorite foods. The vegan food industry has come a long way over the past decade. It’s simply a matter of making more conscious choices in your diet.
