Dairy cattle regained their appetite after using X-Bond Rumen
Cattle farmer Bjarne Jensen from Denmark didn’t know why his cows suddenly stopped eating. Then he tried X-Bond Rumen from Vilomix, and it helped his cows regain their appetite.
From family farm “Louiselund” in Denmark, Bjarne Jensen operates a dairy cattle farm with 275 head of cattle. He has been a farmer since the beginning of the 1990s.
Suddenly he experienced that his cows stopped eating, and the production of milk got lower than normal. It all happened out of the blue and Bjarne tried to find a solution.
- ? ?We didn’t understand what went wrong. We couldn’t smell anything on the feed. We just had problems with the feed and the appetite of the cows. We had problems with faeces and manure consistency. We just couldn’t understand why we couldn’t make it work, Bjarne Jensen says.
More mycotoxins in the feed
Bjarne Jensen and his staff spent a month trying to solve the problem. In their research, they learned more about the levels of mycotoxins in feed nowadays. In their search for a solution, they partnered up with a consultant who advised them to try X-Bond Rumen from Vilomix.
- ? ?The consultant believed it would be best to try adding X-Bond Rumen to the feed, so we applied it to the mineral mixture, says Bjarne Jensen.
X-Bond Rumen is produced by Vilomix and is an effective triple-action product that binds and deactivates naturally occurring mycotoxins like Don and Zen. It is also supported by yeast cells to ensure a good balanced and stable stomach.? Klaus Beier is an advisor at Vilomix specialising in cattle. According to him, there has been very high demand for the product.
- ? ?The demand for X-Bond Rumen has been increasing in the last couple of years. It has been a rainy growing season, but the cow still has to perform. As such, it requires the best conditions, he says.
Fast results
When your cows lose their appetite and start producing less milk, you must react. This was also the case for Bjarne Jensen, who knew straight away that he had to try X-Bond Rumen.
- ? ?It was a no-brainer, because we had to get the cows to eat again. Once you’ve had the problem, you know you have to do something, says the farmer.
Once Bjarne Jensen used X-Bond Rumen in the feed, he quickly saw results.
- ? ?After one week, we saw the first positive signs, but I think it took a month before everything was back to normal, Bjarne Jensen says.
At first, it is advised to use a high dose of X-Bond Rumen. This is adjusted after some days and weeks.
- ? ?Typically, the farmer calls us because they have a problem with the feed intake and lower milk yield. Then, we visit them and run some tests to see if there are mycotoxins in the feed. Until we get the results, we start using X-Bond Rumen in the feed, Klaus Beier from Vilomix says. - ? ?Normally, we advise the farmer to use the high dose of 40 grams per cow per day for the first 14 days. After this, we reduce it to 15-20 grams per cow.

An insurance
Although it is almost two years ago since Bjarne Jensen had problems with mycotoxins in his cattle feed, he still uses X-Bond Rumen today, and that is for one simple reason:
- ? ?We still use it today because we saw how costly it was when the issues appeared. Now it is an insurance policy. It costs a small amount of money every week and month, but it would cost much more if the problems resurfaced, Bjarne Jensen says.
And he is not the only farmer using X-Bond Rumen to secure his cows and production. Vilomix has seen more farmers do the same over the past few years.
- ? ?A lot of our customers continue to use the product. Some try to stop using it for a while, but then the problem shows up again. As such, more and more people just use it every day, Klaus Beier says.
At Louiselund, Bjarne Jensen only has one piece of advice to his fellow farmers: - ? ?I have already recommended it to other farmers, and I will continue to, he says.
