Welcome back, or if it’s your first time here, take a seat, and I’ll fix you a drink.
Today, we are going to look at the Daiquiri. Everyone remembers this drink differently – a frozen slushie drink, a college dive bar drink, or a classic robust rum-based cocktail. Today, we will dive in and stir five different types of Daiquiri, setting you up with ideas for many more. We will take a few of them in a couple of different methods, leaving you with TEN different Daiquiris to try. What a way to come down from dry January, even if you took the Sip & Stir approach to Dry January.
Which Daiquiris will we be stirring today:
- A Classic Daiquiri
- A Rhum Agricole Daiquiri
- A Hemingway
- A Pineapple Daiquiri (Fresh, Frozen, and Grilled)
- A Strawberry Daiquiri (Fresh and Frozen)
- A Banana Daiquiri (Frozen and without Banana)
Let's start with some ingredients:
- Rum
- Aged Rum OR Dark rum
- Rhum Agricole
- Limes
- Pineapples
- Grapefruits
- Maraschino Liqueur
- Cane Sugar
- Turbinado Sugar
- Bananas
- Strawberries
- Salt
What Glass should I use? There’s a lot of options here based on which variety you are making and how classy you do or don’t want it to look:
- Coupe
- Hurricane
- Martini
- Nic & Nora
- Cocktail
- Margarita
- Strainer
- Shaker
- Juicer (Hand juicer or machine)
- Mandoline (Recommended, not required)
- Pineapple corer & slicer (Recommended, not required)
- Blender
Ice None of these drinks are served over ice. You will need ice to shake them and ice for the frozen drinks.
Prep Work : Things to do the day/night before:
- Following my guide <Here>, let’s make a strawberry syrup.
- Then, using cane sugar, make a simple syrup (1:1).
- Finally, make a rich, simple syrup using Turbinado sugar (2:1).
- Take the outer skin off the pineapple, saving the fronds for garnish.
- Create small chunks and freeze them.
- Create spears and grill them, laying them to rest in the fridge after grilling.
- Create spears, but do not grill them; place them in a separate container.
- Take some strawberries, remove the tops, half them, and freeze them.
On the day or night you are serving:
- Juice the limes and grapefruit.
- Juice some of the fresh pineapple and some of the grilled pineapple; keep these separate and labeled, and save some of each for garnish.
- Prepare your garnish.
