The Daily Tulip
Friday 2nd October 2015
Good Morning Gentle Reader, Welcome to The Daily Tulip which is a compilation of news items and my observations after reading them… I try to bring you news that you may have overlooked, the world is full of some much news these days what with the internet growing everyday… and things that would not be possible 20 years ago seemingly normal today… I grew up in England when television meant that someone on the street had one… The Post Office placed phone boxes painted red at strategic points around the town and you got your news from the radio… Unlike today, my phone is in my pocket, the BBC app gives me the news on call and I can watch television on the phone if I wish.. My how the world has changed! … One of the people that features in The Daily Tulip is my young (7 months old) Black Labrador Bella she accompanies me on my early morning walk around the town of Estepona Spain.. located on the Costa del Sol and whose beaches are washed by the waters of the Mediterranean.. So Thank You for taking the time to find us and Thank You for Reading which is the important thing… So Bella and I have done our walk this morning, the coffee is in my cup, so let’s take a look at what the pundits have to say…
Yesterday I spoke about Russia Striking Syria and Putin stating that the western world has to unite together like they did in WWII… But either their aim sucks, or they’re not gunning for a common enemy. The Kremlin says yesterday’s targets were ISIS-held areas, but evidence suggests they were really targeting rebel groups opposed to Assad. This flies in the face of American ambitions for a political resolution and the Syrian leader’s exit… So what must we expect with Putin supporting Assad.. With the U.S. backing Syrian rebels who are apparently now in Russian sights the superpowers risk a much bigger blowup. Both countries’ top diplomats say they’ll hold urgent military talks in a bid to avoid clashing in the skies over Syria….
Richard Glossip’s execution was stayed Yet again the Third Time!… She won’t stop it, but she will postpone it. Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin has delayed the execution of the 52-year-old convicted murderer who has a list of supporters including Pope Francis…. Glossip took his case against lethal injection drugs to the Supreme Court and lost, but won his second stay in just over two weeks on the heels of another high-profile execution. But this only grants a 37-day reprieve for authorities to review their lethal injection method, and offers little hope of clemency…. Prosecutors have portrayed Glossip as a calculating killer who tried to cover up a $6,000 embezzlement by convincing a maintenance man, Justin Sneed, to kill their boss, hotel owner Barry van Treese, in January 1997. He then helped Sneed cover up the brutal bludgeoning and lied to investigators, authorities say…. Glossip's original conviction was overturned because of deficiencies in his defense, but he was found guilty and sentenced to death in a 2004 retrial…."I don't have a doubt in my mind that the state of Oklahoma has done their part," said the victim's son, Daniel Van Treese, who plans to attend the execution with two siblings….Glossip's defenders note the case hinged on the testimony of Sneed, who cut a deal that allowed him to avoid the death penalty despite admitting he was the one who beat Van Treese to death with a bat. They say Sneed has given contradictory accounts and his own daughter endorsed clemency for Glossip…. This raises the point I spoke about regarding Kelly Gissendaner and people “Cut Deals” to avoid the Death Penalty.. in both the cases the evidence against would not have been sufficient to get a conviction in Europe but unfortunately this is taking place in Oklahoma in the “Good Old US of A!” where people are judged and tried by “Sound Bites”……..
I was intrigued by a headline that said “LGBT Girls Overrepresented in US Juvenile Justice System” the problem was I had no dam idea what an LGBT Girl was.. and if you Gentle Reader was honest you did have any idea either… It stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Persons .. So like they say.. “We learn something new everyday!” Well it seems that LGBT people take up a large percentage of inmates in correction facilities in the USA… and It’s one place they’d probably prefer to remain in the minority. Seven percent of American youth identify as LGBT, compared to 15 percent of incarcerated kids — but a whopping 40 percent of girls in juvie are queer, and 85 percent of them are girls of color. These young women are also overrepresented in the child welfare system, according to the National Council on Crime and Delinquency, whose experts hope their research will lead to greater sensitivity toward vulnerable teens who may need more than time in a cell… One wonders why this disassociation from the norm by young women of color hasn’t been noticed before, I for one wonder what the root cause of this aberration is? …
And Finally, and to tell the truth I’m not sure that I believe it.. but it seems not all doors are meant to be opened. Take the emergency exit doors on planes, for example. Unless, of course, in an actual emergency, one should never go so far as to even touch the handle on those doors… But what if you simply mistook it for a door to the plane's lavatory? Of course you would expect the plane to have an outside toilet after all you have just walked through the portal to get on your seat! But this is what James Gray, a passenger on a recent flight from Edinburgh, Scotland, to Amsterdam, is claiming… I would have administered a “Breathalyzer” Soon after the plane touched down at Schiphol Airport, Gray was led away by authorities, in handcuffs… Why am I not surprised? .. Gray then spent the night in an airport detention center, before being released with a $658 (434 British pounds) fine, and being issued a five-year ban against flying KLM Royal Dutch Airlines….The reason for his penalties? Trying to open the door on the plane while midair at 30,000 feet… Gray said in a statement that "The crew told me to stay in my seat and I was to be arrested when the plane landed. I tried to explain it was a simple mistake," said Gray, describing what happened after he tried the handle of the emergency door, allegedly under the assumption it was the bathroom…."It was a misunderstanding," he said. "The police came and arrested me. …They weren't too friendly."… When Gray went to board his return flight to Edinburgh on KLM, he was denied access. The five-year ban was effective immediately. So Gray flew back to Scotland on another airline… I think that Mr. Gray is full of BS and should have had a harder fine and sentence placed upon him….
Well Gentle Reader it’s that time again.. “So that’s the news.. so now you know!”… Our Tulips today are Red.. Very Red.. Hope you enjoy them... But remember it's a dangerous world we live in.. Be safe out there...
