SCOTTISH TEEN RESCUES SHEEP SINKING INTO MUDDY BOG…. A Scottish teenager out testing his new camera lenses ended up rescuing a filthy sheep he found buried up to its head in a muddy bog. James Raeburn, 17, posted a video to YouTube showing his rescue of the sheep he found trapped in the bog Tuesday in Craigie. "I thought it was dead at first, but it seems to be alive, so I'm going to -- I'm going to try and rescue a sheep," Raeburn says in the video. "This could get messy." The video uses sped-up footage to show Raeburn working for about an hour to pull the sheep out of its predicament. He is eventually able to hoist the mud-covered sheep and set it next to the mud puddle to rest. "Never thought I would be doing that today," he says in the video.
GOLDEN RETRIEVER GIVES BIRTH TO RARE GREEN PUPPY IN SCOTLAND…. A dog owner in Scotland shared photos of her golden retriever with her litter of puppies, one of which stands out for its rare green coloration. Louise Sutherland said her family was shocked when Rio, their 3-year-old golden retriever, gave birth to a litter that included a green puppy, which they dubbed Forest.
The puppy's eight siblings were born with more typical golden fur, she said. Sutherland said most of the litter will be going to new homes, but her family has decided to keep Forest for themselves. A Spanish breeder reported in 2014 that a litter of hunting dogs included two puppies born with green fur. One of the puppies did not survive, and the other's green fur eventually faded in favor of more normal coloration. The cause of the condition was determined to be exposure to biliverdin, a green bile pigment found in the placenta. https://youtu.be/2oV_gspN6S4
SMALL EARTHQUAKE FELT IN WEST HIGHLANDS…. People in the north west Highlands have reported feeling a small earthquake on Sunday morning. British Geological Survey (BGS) recorded a 2.3 magnitude earthquake at Badrallach, a few miles west of Ullapool, at about 09:00. Residents of Ullapool and nearby Loggie, Ardessie and Camusnagaul have reported feeling the quake.
BGS said the reports included descriptions of walls "visibly" shaking and windows rattling. Mirrors on walls were also said to have rattled while other residents told BGS that "the whole house shook" and of the earthquake feeling like "lorries passing the house".
BGS said the intensity of the quake had been classed as a three on the European Macroseismic Scale, meaning it was "weak" but could still be felt indoors by people. On social media, people living in Dundonnell have also told of feeling the earthquake.
ORKNEY ARCHAEOLOGISTS EXCITED BY INCENSE POT DISCOVERY…. Archaeologists say they have unearthed the remains of a so-called incense pot at the Ness of Brodgar in Orkney. It is only the fifth one of its type discovered in the British Isles. Other examples have been found near Stonehenge and in Dorset. Site director Nick Card told BBC Radio Orkney that the pieces might not look like much, but were in fact "very exciting". It was discovered by a volunteer working at the dig. The identification was confirmed by Claire Copper, who has recently an MPhil at the University of Bradford, and her supervisor Dr Alex Gibson.

Torrential rain had affected parts of south-west Scotland. Pretoria Road and Delhi Place in Eastriggs were waterlogged on Saturday afternoon. Fire crews were called in to pump water away from the area in an attempt to protect local properties.
EXTRA TRAINS FOR EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SEASON…. Extra late night trains are to run from Edinburgh during the August festivals.
ScotRail said more carriages will also be added to trains connecting the capital to Glasgow, Fife and North Berwick during the festivals. Late night trains will run daily between Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Queen Street, leaving at 00:01 and 00:30, with an increase in the number of carriages at weekends. ScotRail has urged people to plan journeys in advance. Extra carriages will also be used between Edinburgh and Fife on Friday evenings and all day Saturday and Sunday, with an extra service running after midnight between North Berwick and Edinburgh, getting people to and from the Fringe by the Sea. Perry Ramsey, ScotRail Alliance operations director, said: "Edinburgh's August festivals are one of the highlights of the year, attracting talent and tourists from all over the world. It's a great chance to showcase the very best of Scotland.
