1. Renesas Electronics plans to further increase the production capacity of automotive semiconductors by 10% from the current level by 2026. To this end, the company plans to install #manufacturing equipment and expand production at three factories in Japan to achieve a stable supply of #semiconductors. The total investment in capacity expansion of the three plants is 47.7 billion yen, of which 15.9 billion yen will be subsidized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
2. Micron Technology's U.S. stock rose about 1% after hours. According to reports, Micron Technology is expected to receive about 200 billion yen ($1.5 billion) in financial incentives from Japan to produce its next-generation chips in Japan.
3. ON Semiconductor announced a strategic agreement with Kempower to provide Kempower with EliteSiC MOSFETs and diodes for scalable electric vehicle (EV) charging piles. The cooperation between the two parties enables Kempower to develop a suite of electric vehicle charging solutions using various power semiconductor technologies, including ON Semiconductor's EliteSiC products.
4. Chip stocks in the U.S. stock market generally rose, and the #Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose 2.5% to a five-week high. #AMD, which rose by more than 4% yesterday, rose again by more than 2%, refreshing the highest in more than nine months. #Nvidia rose by more than 3%, the highest in the past 17 months since December 2021, but Intel fell by more than 1%.
