Daily Pulse: Spotify founders send Sweden an ultimatum, the proven consequences of Zika virus, and more news.

Spotify isn't going to take it anymore. Cofounders Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon penned an open letter to Sweden's politicians threatening to give up on their home country unless major policy changes are enacted. You may have heard about Sweden as a Nordic Eden, but try renting an apartment there... The school system isn't putting out enough engineers and taxes are sky high, the cofounders complain:

“We are now therefore forced to state that if no changes are made, we must consider growing more in other countries instead of Sweden.”

Sound familiar? Entrepreneurs around the world are moving into the spaces politicians are leaving vacant, trying to shake institutions that aren't moving nearly as fast as they. Just today, Australian entrepreneur and Influencer Matt Barrie wrote on LinkedIn that his own country is stuck "in the Stone Age."

Correlation, and now causation. Scientists at the Center for Disease Control say there's now enough evidence to conclude that the Zika virus indeed can cause microcephaly and brain damage in infants. (The link was suspected until now, but not yet proven.) With summer approaching, the CDC hopes the announcement will have more people, especially pregnant women, hearing its prevention message.

If you fly to or from Europe, you'll be tracked much more closely. Currently, airlines record your name, contact, credit card and passport details, and pass them on to law enforcement only when a red flag is raised. The European Parliament is poised to pass a law that would take that data out of airlines' hands and pass it to a new state unit set up in each country and held for five years.

BP's shareholder meeting promises to be rocky. Several major investors are planning to vote against CEO Bob Dudley's whopping 20% pay rise, amid job cuts and declining profits. The vote is non-binding.

Filling the gap at Old Navy: Gap appointed a new leader for the brand – Sonia Syngal, a veteran of the ailing retailer. Old Navy was Gap Inc's saving grace, when it adopted a winning "fast fashion" strategy under previous president Stefan Larsson, who had come from H&M. Sales have been down, however, since Larsson left.

That's one sick bill. US spending on prescription drugs is expected to jump 22% in the next five years to reach as much as $400 billion in 2020. And that's taking discounts into account. The US is responsible for more than 40% of the world's drug spending.
