Everyday Life Stresses Canadians
In the face of a competitive labour market and rising costs due to inflation, Canadians have spoken out about what benefits they want to see from their employers. The ‘Mercer Health on Demand’ survey reveals significant gaps that exist when it comes to what workers actually need and what their employer is providing, in order to cope with life – not just work. Employees want and need support, especially the next generation as 63 per cent of Gen Z employees feel stressed in everyday life. The gap in supports offered between high income and low income is also significant. Those whose household income is below the median are two times more likely not to be confident they can afford healthcare. Employees see gaps in their coverage and 37 per cent are looking for targeted services to support youth mental health, socialization, and learning issues. Yet, only 21 per cent have employer provided supports. Just 48 per cent of employees trust their employer to deliver solutions that are high-quality, convenient, affordable, and secure – revealing a gap for employers to address.
