RIVE is all the rage right now and creating interactivity with State Machines is what really differentiates it from the crowd that's vying for your "will there ever be a replacement to After Effects" attention. I haven't had this much fun stretching my brain since I was introduced to Xpresso in Cinema 4D, and I'm super stoked to see what doors this opens for motion designers that take the plunge.

I have a feeling RIVE will feature often in these posts and if you're curious about what all the hubbub is about, this is my list of features that have me excited as a long-time After Effects animator that's dabbled in character work:

• Layer Folders.
• FLOW built-in.
• Switches/Solos.
• Animatable Draw Order.
• Constraints (including IK).
• Native (& FAST) Joysticks.
• Connection to Unreal Engine.
• Text "runs" w/ a much more intuitive Type Animator system.

Jorge Bompart has been consistently pushing the envelope on what's possible with rigged characters, and this moment with Yzma of Emperor's New Groove shows just how much further we could pushing our character work in motion design. Check out the lip sync with that mouth rig!
