This is the epitome of taking a situation for granted. A fly on the Sistine Chapel ceiling brings a whole new meaning to "fly on the wall." But aren't we all like that about many aspects of our lives, where we can't see the beauty for the pain.
“We are like flies crawling across the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, unaware of what gods and angels lie just beneath the threshold of our perception.”
William Irwin Thompson - American social philosopher, cultural critic, and poet

2 年It's amazing how unconscious we can be. That said, it takes a practice of gratitude, and an ability to stay in the present moment, at least some of the time. There is no doubt, science backs it up, that gratitude uplifts. What we focus on magnifies. We need to stay on top of the committee in our heads!

2 年Like that fly on the ceiling, we need to consistently remind ourselves to practice gratitude. That fly might be thinking "there's no food up here," instead of appreciating the fact that he/she/they are touching the brushstrokes of Michelangelo.
