Daily global market review
Financial markets registered mixed performances in the US, Canada, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 33,897.01, representing a decrease of 79.62 points or 0.23%. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 index slipped by 0.35 points or 0.01% to 4,154.52. The NASDAQ Composite Index gained 3.81 points or 0.03% to reach 12,157.23. The VIX, which measures market volatility, declined by 0.37 points or 2.20% to 16.46. The Russell 2000 index, which tracks the performance of small-cap stocks, advanced by 3.89 points or 0.22% to 1,799.44. In Canada, the S&P/TSX Composite Index fell by 3.85 points or 0.02% to 20,680.83, and the S&P/TSX 60 index rose by 0.32 points or 0.03% to 1,246.76. In Brazil, the BOVESPA index dropped by 2,250.29 points or 2.12% to 103,912.94. In Chile, the S&P IPSA index decreased by 51.13 points or 0.93% to 5,423.49, and in Mexico, the S&P/BMV IPC index slipped by 77.43 points or 0.14% to 54,308.09.
The STOXX Europe 50 fell by 5.45 points, or 0.13%, to reach a value of 4,047.08, while the STOXX Europe 600 dropped 0.49 points, or 0.10%, to finish at 468.13. The FTSE 100, representing the United Kingdom's largest companies, declined by 10.67 points, or 0.13%, to end at 7,898.77. In contrast, Italy's FTSE MIB gained 42.18 points, or 0.15%, and closed at 27,933.61. France's CAC 40 increased by 15.81 points, or 0.21%, to reach a value of 7,549.44. The KOSPI in South Korea was up by 0.16%, or 3.99 points, to close at 2,575.08. The Taiwan SE was down by 0.62%, or 98.97 points, to close at 15,770.47.
The Nasdaq Crypto Index (NCI) experienced a decline of 4.38%, closing at 1,734.34, with a decrease of 79.44 points. Bitcoin (BTCUSD) also dropped by 3.85%, with its value at 29,207.00, a decrease of 1,171.00 points. Ether (ETHUSD) saw a drop of 6.06%, with its value at 1,977.10, a decrease of 127.50 points. Litecoin (LTCUSD) experienced a significant decline of 8.64%, with its value at 92.99, down by 8.79 points. XRPUSD, which represents the value of XRP, saw a decrease of 6.79%, closing at 0.49, down by 0.04 points.
