Here is the golden principle I want to discuss today: Daily fitness doesn’t cost you time, it buys you time back!
So, the #1 excuse I hear from anybody I chat to about fitness is this: “I just don’t have time in my day to fit it in.” this is generally accompanied with lots more plausible excuses to support their theme.
So if you are on this excuse bandwagon right now, you need to get off it. Right now. Today. You can either make excuses or you can make progress. You can’t make both.
If you make excuses your quality of life will gradually decline. If you make positive changes, your quality of life will keep getting better. This applies to all areas of your life.
We are formed by our daily habits. We are a result of what we repeatedly do.
Here are some key things to think about:
- If you don’t make time for health and fitness, you must make time for illness, under performance, low energy, mood swings, procrastination etc…
- If you make fitness a daily non negotiable priority, your quality of life will incrementally improve.
- If you are not deliberate and purposeful about daily fitness it will not become a daily habit. You must plan it in to your day.
So, how does daily fitness buy you time back?
- You are more energised throughout the day! You have more energy. The more energy you have in your energy bank the more productive you are!
- It keeps you positive! Positive energy is powerful. You can accomplish so much more as an individual and in a team setting if you bring positive energy.
- It is an anti-depressant! So many people I have spoken to have been able to reduce or even stop their medication once they have locked in the daily fitness habit.
- It lifts your confidence and self-esteem! We all need more of this! It has many flow on benefits.
- You sleep better! Getting quality sleep each night cannot be gain said. The health benefits are numerous.
- Your whole daily routine improves. You go to sleep earlier, sleep better, wake earlier, get more done etc. it is an upward spiral.
- You eat better! It forces you to eat clean. It stops your cravings for processed, crap food and drink. You start to crave healthy whole foods and lots more water!
- Most people live in a dehydrated state. This is not good. Daily fitness forces you to drink a lot more water!
- It creates momentum! Momentum reduces the risk of procrastination and wasted time!
- It gives you a mental victory which then leads to more wins through the day! It helps you to build? a winning mindset!
- It builds resilience. We all need more of this. We need it in spades to help us get through all of lifes challenges.
- You get more respect from others. It garners respect. You become a good influence. A positive role model.
- It gives you an unfair advantage over 99% of the population who are not doing it. It gives you an edge in all areas of life.
- It reduces stress! It makes you feel much more in control!
- It leads you into dropping bad habits such as mindless phone checking and scrolling and building new positive value adding habits in your daily routine.
- It makes you more creative! It shifts you from a “consumer” to a “creator”. This has so many flow on benefits.
- It reduces inflammation, improves circulation, reduces mortality risk, reduces the risk of many diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease etc.
- The list goes on and on! I have bundled a lot of the benefits together as there are so many!
These are only some of the benefits and bear in mind that each of these also have their own flow on benefits too!
Still not convinced? Ok, here is my challenge to you: Try it for just the next 7 days and report back to me. Simply replace 20 to 30 minutes of your usual screen/ social media time and get out and walk as fast as you can, rain, hail or shine. NO excuses. No BS! The time for excuses is over! They are crippling and life sucking! Simply block out the time in your calendar and do it.
IF you are one of the very rare people who has zero screen time per day because of your crazy work and family schedule then there are many other ways to fit it in.
- Use the stairs not the lift. And run up them!
- Run wherever you go. Stop dawdling and shuffling to the bathroom etc!
- If you have any break time eg lunch, go for a fast walk and do some press ups and squats!
- Drop to the floor and do 25 press ups or as many as you can do! If you do this a few times per day it adds up fast! You can do these almost anywhere.
- If you are a travelling sales person set yourself little goals each day eg 100 press ups and 200 squats. So whenever you have a bathroom stop, find a spot to do some press ups and squats.
- Start blocking out a little time in your calendar for fitness each day. Your productivity will keep increasing as you increase your fitness time.
- Be CREATIVE! Where theres a will theres a way! Above all don’t make excuses! ?? Just make it happen! Stop talking about it and do it!
?Start small and keep building it up. Aim for 1% better every day!
?Good luck with building this new daily habit! You will smash it out of the park!
